Something like a star. That's what the night watch said when they called it in a tenday ago. Far above the spires and streets of Redwind, they saw an arc of light slash through the sky, growing brighter and closer by the minute. By the time it crashlanded in the mountains to the north, half the town had been roused and had seen it. They didn't wait until morning to share their thoughts. Some residents thought it could be a fragment of a comet that had strayed too close, full of rare and otherworldly metals and minerals. Others believed it was the doing of some belligerent faction somehow. But the rumor that took hold the strongest was that this unknown luminous object was magical, even divine, in nature— and that its arrival hinted at something far greater. Something cataclysmic.

The people of Redwind are not used to caring about such things: until now, the fears surrounding the prophecy that predicts the world of Blitzia getting buried under an eternal winter have been pushed back by the lighthearted, relaxed, and relentlessly optimistic local culture. But with what is being seen as an omen impossible to ignore, fanaticism and paranoia have taken hold of the city overnight as rival factions descend on Redwind, each demanding to have first access on the hunt for the fallen object. Desperate to avoid civil unrest, the mayor has announced the formation of an official search party, comprised of a Loyalist, a Kindling, and a Skeptic to ensure multiple interests are represented. All eyes are on Redwind as the factions scramble to select a figurehead to send in their stead— one who will not hesitate when it comes time to act out their side's agenda.

But uncharted territory tends to blur the lines around ideals that once felt like immutable laws. As these explorers set out into the wild, they will soon uncover a mystery that challenges everything they thought they knew— the revelation that they might not be alone in this winter after all.

Light griefs are loquacious, but the great are dumb.
