Teros, our world, is safe. You have been taught from a young age that the last war that happened, well, was only a mere skirmish. You were taught from a younger age that our government, the High United Powers, has done it's best to advocate for it's wonderful citizens, and even more to ensure that all the countries under the stars remain in harmony.
You're safe.
Except for one thing.
You can't remember when it started. There wasn't any real starting point. You've went to records of the past, history books, even your parents nor your grandparents can remember when the High United Powers started this... campaign. A campaign that depicts these terrifying monsters that live underground-- threatening to take the lives of everyone on the surface. You remember the images vividly. Regular adults, boys, girls, even puppies being slaughtered by these... creatures with grotesque abdomens, jagged fangs, and crooked antlers.
So what does the HUP use to "solve" and fend back these vile beasts? The Gilded Mages. Portrayed as these valiant, knights in shining armor, these esteemed members of society are almost revered like gods, celebrities, and kings. The ground they walk on is almost sacred in the way it's worshipped. These mages, all valedictorians from their respective graduating classes, are invited, and mandated, to join the Gilded Mages to protect the surface from these creatures.
Admittedly... you're a Gilded Mage. Freshly graduated, and graciously invited, you're just about ready to settle into this new job. Yeah. Job. You can call it that now. It feels like a fever dream, recieving that envelope, not to mention the beautiful woven basket that came with it. Delivered by a mechanical hawk no less! With a tote bag, water bottle, sweater and all!
Tomorrow, you start your long awaited job as a Gilded Mage! After packing up your things, a preliminary welcome ceremony and saying goodbye to your loved ones, of course. The buzz and excitement from the notion almost prevented you from falling asleep. That and the huge crashing noise outside. And the yelling. And the fact that one of your supervisors just barged into the room to tell you to get yourself to the main hall as soon as a minute ago.
Working for the High United Powers is going to be hard work. It's fine though. You signed up for it anyway.
