Titling your works: what's your process?

So for my first (real) post, I'd like to half-poll and half-beg-for-advice since I'm haing difficulty titling my own project as I begin to drag it out of the 'mess of world building notes' phase and into the 'writing actual words' phase.

When it comes to naming your works, how do you go about it? Is there a process or do you just feel it out as you go? What's worked for you and what hasn't?

We held an official poll a few months back about titling works - maybe that thread will spark some ideas?

A placeholder title is totally okay to use until you find that title that feels *right*!

Ack, I didn't realize I'd reposted something already discussed! My bad!

I'll take a look at that thread, thanks a ton for the link.

No need to apologize! I for one will always welcome more threads on this topic because I haven't got it figured out either, haha

Based on the main content of the book to choose a suitable name, just read the title of the book to know what content you want to mention.

Coming up with a title is always one of the trickiest parts for me too. I usually start with a few keywords that capture the core theme or mood, then let the title evolve as I write. Sometimes the perfect phrase pops up during a scene that really defines the story.
