People are made of little bits and fragments of things they love, and I think this applies a lot to art as well. So I ask, what kinda of things have influenced or inspired you as an artist? Have you ever intentionally tried to incorporate a specific style or technique into your art, or was there something that just crept up on you and stayed ever since? This applies to any kind of art medium btw—drawing, painting, sculpting, writing, theater, whatever.
I'll go first:
Visually, I was influenced a lot by the artist Lavendertowne. I watched her videos a lot as a kid and felt drawn to her bouncy bubbly art style, specifically the way she shaded and the way she drew eyes. I remember taking up whole sketchbook pages just trying to imitate her style. And I think that shows up a lot in my art today; I love to focus on the eyes and facial expressions of characters, and I like to give each of my OCs a unique eye (with varying eyelash shapes or pupils or whatever).
And as for inspiration, I love the work of Doctor Nowhere, a horror artist known for surrealist works like "The Boiled One Phenomenon." His creatures are just so spindly and textured and unreal,, which is what makes them so scary. This is kinda why I suddenly started writing all this scary poetry, is because I'm so fascinated by Doctor Nowhere and similar artists. I would love to create scary fellas like that,, but I'm not really a great horror artist, so for now I just write spooky poetry inspired by his work.
