Hi guys, I'm new to writing, never done it before. After searching for a whole bunch of writing websites with a community that gives reviews, I decided with this one.
As my username suggests, I'm a big fan of Isekai and Fantasy genres, and voila, who doesn't want to be the hero of the story.

Me being new here, there's a lot of things I don't know about. At the time of typing this, I don't even know if "subject" is "topic", I'll soon find out... What do you guys think about the reviews here. Specifically, the time it takes for one to be given, the constructiveness(is this made up) of one. Yeah I'm specifically looking for information on reviews, but maybe other questions I haven't asked will be answered along the way if I'm lucky to find someone who knows lots about this place, and about writing too.

I wonder what stories inspired you to write, I believe every story has a reference model... If you get what I'm saying.
Looking forward to exchanging feedback with y'all.

Hello Ise! Welcome to YWS!! It's great to meet you! What are some of your favorite Isekai animes? I myself am not the biggest fan of them but I'm open to suggestions! My favorite animes (to name a few) are: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Steins;Gate, Your Lie In April, Arcane, The Case Study of Vanitas, and more but I just can't remember them right now LOL

Reviewing is super helpful, whether it's receiving reviews or giving reviews! Reviewing has personally helped me grow and evolve as a writer SO much. Don't stress over reviewing. I recommend you follow our YWS'mores method to help you get started with reviewing. It's super simple and will help you organize your thoughts!

Let me know if you have any other questions. I look forward to seeing you around the site and I really hope you stick around!!

Thanks for the warm welcome, I saw the post on my wall first...

I saw lots of Isekai/Fantasy which included Slime Reincarnation, Cautious Hero, Gate, Seven Spellblades, Shield Hero, and a bunch of others that would give the impression of "kid's show". I liked the memes about people pulling up other very un-kiddy animes when they hear the words kid's show.

Ahh the smores method, I just read that, along with this one as well: Reviewing Writers More Skilled Than You
I see that reviewing makes you try to find the flaws, or just things that didn't ring as much. Or maybe there really was no problem with the stories, which is currently happening with me with the works I'm finding.

Wait... how do I reply to a specific person... small chat box...

You don't necessary need to find flaws! It's definitely appreciated, since everyone who posts their writing here is looking to improve and possibly get published one day, so it helps a ton to point out the flaws you might notice while reading. I usually note down any grammatical flaws (such as spelling errors or missing punctuation) specifically with prose. With poetry, many of the poets here on YWS enjoy free-verse poetry so I do not focus on grammar nitpicks when reviewing poetry and instead I focus on whether the poem makes sense, if their flow is good, etc.

You definitely also wanna sprinkle in some positive feedback as well, which is why I love the YWS'mores method so much. I like to tell the author what I enjoyed about their work, as I believe it's helpful to know what they are doing right! (I'm also a teacher so it's ingrained in me to be positive lol)

But yeah! Don't overthink it. Just do the best you can and I promise that you will improve as time goes by! :D

Welcome welcome::) stories that inspired me on my current novel were Mulan, King Arthur, Shadow and Bone and lots of things i probably dont notice.
For reviewing I've found that it's good to test out different methods to see what works for you. I tend to go more chronologically and make comments, then wrap up my thoughts at the end. I started our with the sandwich method of positive - constructive criticism- positive. This helped me to find my voice and know how to give advice and criticism without sounding like a jerk.
Don't feel like you have to get tied to one style either! Poetry is big on YWS and you can't really review it at all the same as the chapter of a novel or short story.

But welcome! Be sure to check our peoples tab :) i hope YWS blesses you as much as it has me

Thanks Hermes(cuz "Messenger")! I read novels like almost all of Rick Riordan's books, Harry Potter, Rangers Apprentice, and some others when I was in elementary. Then I moved on to things like Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings during middle school. My English teacher even told me about the "things" that appeared in Game of Throne, lol.
And then phones came, yeah we love our small PCs don't we.
The tip about reviews, simple, straightforward, effective. I'll definitely be taking notes from that.

Time to unleash unhinged imagination mania, dialed down. Can't be making stuff even the author would cringe about...

Hello!! Welcome :D

I also love anime, but I'm with Iggy in that Isekais aren't my favorite. I really like sports anime along with slice of life! My favorite is Chihayafuru because that involves both of those things AND poetry, which is my passion!

I feel like writing good reviews is all about trying to be as helpful as possible, being willing to put in real time to try to understand what a piece is doing and how you as a reviewer can be the most helpful. It definitely takes practice, like anything! But writing reviews on this site was--no hyperbole--the most useful thing for my writing that I did on this site! It really gets you to think about what you value in writing overall. Articulating that makes it easier to write your own stuff in a way that feels stronger to you. It also feels good to write helpful reviews and become known for that (I have maybe a little bit of eighth grader syndrome with that too haha! It's fun to be like a reviewing hero!)

But it definitely comes with practice both writing reviews and reading reviews. If you ever receive (or read) a review you find to be particularly helpful, you can analyze it and see what about it you liked, then try to do that same type of thing in your own reviews! I like when people tell me their interpretations of my poems as a whole, and then break down any individual spots of confusion, so I try to do that same kind of thing when I review :]

There's a bit of a learning period when anyone joins when you're just figuring out the terminology and the way the site works, but we all get excited for new folks to join and be active, so I hope you stick around and have fun :D

Ah! hello!! i'm herb/century & welcome to yws!!! i must agree that a lot of reincarnation animes aren't my favorite but... i have a soft spot for ones like the slime farmer guy one. he starts a laundromat?! stunning.

i'm a poet at heart, so i don't have much to say about inspirations for novels, but i've dabbled in a few. i'd say they're mostly inspired by agatha christie, whatever movie i've watched most recently, rick riordan, online webseries/webtoons, annnd dave pilkey.

personally, i'd love to invite you to the Roleplay forums! they haven't had much action recently... but trust me, it's so fun once you get into one.

hope you have fun! it's always nice to see new faces :P
[soon, i will submit myself to the stars]

@Rook thanks for the warm welcome. I'll be looking forward to analyzing any reviews I get on my first series and seeing what I can work on. Currently it's still in the green room.
The Aristocrat, The Bandits, The Chalice. Chapter One

@chrysanthemumcentury Hello to you too.
Ahh the lil boy blessed by the gods, I remember that one. I actually read a poem yesterday about star life cycles.

I'll guess I'll be checking out the roleplay section later.
