Hello poets, and friends alike! It's official, NaPo is returning to YWS this month! This is the place to find all of the information regarding how the event will run and what to do to participate. As we approach Halloween, the poetry crew will be running a week of NaPo from October 25th- October 31st.
As we countdown to NaPo week and participate in the event, if you have any Monster Mashes (Poetry Jams), questions about the event, poetry prompts, ideas, or inspirations, please feel free to post them below for everyone to see
What exactly is National Poetry Month (NaPo)?
I am glad you asked! If you are new to YWS, you may have never participated in NaPo before and that is totally okay! NaPo stands for 'National Poetry Month' and happens every April. During that month, poets strive to write a poem per day, for 30 days. NaPo week will last seven days, which gives us a goal of writing one poem per day for a week. But even if you don't write every day, there are other challenges and badges available, even if you only write one poem.
How will NaPo week work on YWS?
During NaPo week, you don't need to publish your poems the way you normally would, in the publishing center (although you totally can if you would like to). In the next couple of days, the NaPo week forums will be opened! This will allow you to create your own theme and style, and add some personal touches to your own poetry sharing space, before the first day of NaPo week on October 25th!
Throughout the week, we will be doing #PCrewPicks, where one poem will be selected daily to be highlighted by a member of the YWS Poetry Crew. We encourage you to share your own #PeoplesPick too! Stay tuned for more amazing events, like an Edgar Allan Poe themed writing party, daily poetry tips and prompts (Tricks and Treats!), and a special edition of The Pumpkin Patch (The Orchard).
