Rana and Lia exchanged a glance, eyes wide. Then Rana looked back at Gaius. “Goodness! Is she okay?”

Rana fought down her impulse to argue and press for more information. Instead she was silent for a moment, choosing her next words carefully, as she dipped her head. “Very fair. I apologize.”

Sara glanced toward Gaius. "Perhaps we should talk about the planned evacuations. Have you heard about those, Rana? We were discussing them with your father earlier."

(Just busy lol I got turned loose in the shop today at work and ended up working almost an hour past my shift cause I was so invested and then I went to Walmart and spent like $80 in cleaning supplies and went on an absolute binge as soon as I got home scrubbing anything and everything lol)

Both girls looked between them with big eyes, then quickly looked down to their laps. They knew that tone. That was the tone that came when they were in danger of getting in trouble. And neither of them wanted caught in the middle of it.
Rana resisted the urge to glance at the door, barely. She wanted to run. Bolt. Grab Lia and get them far away from whatever squabble this was about to turn into. But that wouldn’t be prim and proper. She needed to figure out how to either defuse the situation or simply disappear. Maybe both.

Rana didn’t believe that for a moment. But she was glad that this lady had the good sense not to further agitate her father.
