But told him that Michael passed on and then lied and said she didn’t know who was in her room. Our plan had been her slipping up when she and Jer got drunk but that hasn’t happened yet. "That Gaius will choose you over himself regarding Michael."

Oh. She furrowed her brow at that, annoyed. “He won’t choose me over himself for anything. But getting Michael out of his house will be a top priority. Would be. If he knew.” Because unlike him, she actually cared about his feelings and not being difficult for the hell of it.

"You should tell him," he advised. "maybe."

“Why?” She glanced at him.

"So he can help you, if that's what you believe he'll do. But..." Severus chewed his lip. "You know the history. Telling him could be dangerous to his mental health."

“That’s why I haven’t,” she said sourly, glancing away.

"And yet you want to be kept safe from him."

“I can handle him.” She shrugged sourly. As if she needed Gaius. “I’ve got my rune.”

"Ah, I remember." He nodded thoughtfully. "I'd forgotten. What do you have to worry about, then?"

Ky scoffed before she could stop herself. What didn’t she have to worry about? The gods waking up. Heralding. Her family dying. Gaius lying to her. But she couldn’t get into all that. “… Just him being an ass. I can still see and hear everything, even if you all can’t touch me or do me physical harm.”

"I see." He thought for a moment. "Does he have his keys?"

“Michael? Yeah. But Gaius changed all the locks, so they won’t do him much good… except when I’m out and about. He could walk in this instant if he wanted to.”

"You could always lock him in someplace," he suggested.

“… couldn’t he climb through a window? It’s not like he could die again if he fell…”
