Two Crows Watch from the Gallows Tree (part 19)

(After years and years I've finally found the old album of Russian children's songs from when I was a little kid that my parents would play all the time, and I've got mixed feelings. It's nostalgic but mildly unnerving)

"I grouchy, that all. Grudge hard to hold after so long but ribs still sore."

She cringed and nodded. “…Can I help? I think we’ve got supplies…”

(Not really; the songs are innocent enough. Some of the voices and musical arrangements are just a bit unconventional for American ears, I think. I enjoyed it all enough that I listened to it constantly.

She nodded slowly, still drowning in guilt but actively resisting the urge to apologize again. “…Okay…I…”

They're beloved in my mind though; I grew up being creeped out by them so I'm deeply attached.
I haven't found the dog song on this playlist yet which is bumming me out, but maybe it's in here somewhere. That one was cute.)

"You want sit? It cold out here."

She nodded, deciding that was a gesture of good will, and shuffled a little closer to the fire. “It is… nasty night.”

"Get nastier; take longer for sun to rise each day. Less food, more troll."

Ky nodded and plopped down next to the fire, shivering slightly. “I imagine Tomhas can start giving you a deer once we get back home. Which will hopefully help.”

He shrugged. "Maybe. How he doing?"

“Okay.” Ky shrugged, too. “He’s still not really talking or eating much, but seems to be doing a little better now that we’re heading home.”

"Good." He nodded approvingly. "When he get better?"

Ky shrugged. “I dunno.”

"Hope it happen fast; he seem sick in head now."

Ky nodded glumly, wiping at her nose. “I think we all are at this point… but especially him, yes. I hope he gets better soon.”

"It take time, I sure he will."
