They're about the size of cats in this but Tove's cats all have her protective spells on them, which means the redcaps can't harm them and are essentially prey. (The first time I'd heard of them was in this book my mom read to me called Ronya the Robber's Daughter She was like 8 and got lost in the woods, and the redcaps started calling out to her and were like "we're gonna eatcha" and then her dad came and got her but I just remember how scary they were in that book)
