“Yes.” Jerica nodded with a little smile. She felt awkward. Like she should give him a hug. And yet she knew that she alarmed people when she got near to them, across the board. Governor’s Assassins didn’t get many hugs. “Soon.”
Ky swallowed hard and shook her head. She couldn’t tell Sera about Septimus. She’d already lied about that. “A…hunch. It can’t be good… I… am technically a fugitive from a Governor, I guess. It… it has to be…” this was going badly. Where was she even trying to take that sentence?

Rickard stepped toward the door to open it for her.
She frowned. "Are you in danger, Ky?"

Jerica started to bend to get her sword belt, then reconsidered and glanced at him. “I… need to get my sword. I won’t take it out of the sheath. Is that okay?”
“Why do you think I’m here?” Ky scoffed, tone more bitter than she’d meant. Had Sera just been sleeping the past two months?

“There is no aside from that.” Ky tugged anxiously on her hair. “It’s all a knotted mess and now the South is following me up here.”

She straightened and buckled it back on her hips, still moving slow.
“No. I just found— I mean— I…” she huffed. “Are they even planning to tell me about them?”

"I really don't know," Sera began, then started as Rickard opened the door.

Ky whirled around on the door, taking a quick step backwards.
Jerica tensed at the sudden movement, startled, but didn’t move into an offensive position. Instead she tried to assess the situation as fast as possible. But she stopped short when she saw this… girl, standing before her. She blinked at her, brow furrowed.
Ky paled.
