Pratik glanced over at him, heart breaking a bit. What had Rickard been used to, to find that pleasant? “… I certainly prefer baths here.”

"Absolutely." He nodded. "Being able to soak for hours at a time, hot coals under the tub so the water doesn't go cold...it's like being rich."

“Literally,” Pratik said with a little smile. The baths here were quite nice. He never took much longer than fifteen minutes or so. It put him in a vulnerable position — naked and on his ass. A mercenary couldn’t afford to stay that way long. But it was nice when it lasted.

He glanced down at the other book. "Oh--this is one of the others I mentioned. Very different illustrations."

Pratik traded the books and flipped that one open next.

This one had illustrations in the margins in black ink in extreme detail. Many were hyperrealistic but some were cartoonish, as if the author grew bored while writing. It was another storybook, this time from the North.

"I've never seen any such thing so I couldn't say, but they look like what you've just described." There were indeed comics at the end, crudely drawn but quote amusing in their humor.
