"Of course I have! I hire the people I vibe with. That's a form of vetting. You'll like Tad, I promise."

"Right." She was almost disturbed at the implication that he 'vibed' with her.

"I'll send him in here when he arrives. Any questions for me? Like just in general, about the job, anything?"

"If I may be blunt, why is it necessary to hire two people to stare at a video game controller for a week?"

"So you guys can take shifts to eat and sleep, of course!" He smiled.

She huffed a laugh. "I mean, why does the video game controller need to be gaurded? Why is it special?"

"Ohhh." He nodded slowly. "If I told you the full story I would genuinely have to kill you. But vaguely, it's a magical artifact that people will really, really want to be using in the next seven days. After that things will be fine again."

"Great. And a safe couldn't accomplish the same goal because...?"

"Because then nobody's looking at it. Duh."

"O...kay."

"That is extremely, extremely important by the way. If a hand comes through a portal or a portal just opens up, shoot the thing. Just shoot it."

"Got it."

"Okay! Anything else?"
