"Good, good." Bug nodded approvingly. "I always prefer bludgeoning weapons myself. Jackson over there found that sword and won't let it go. Shingles just....uses his hands. And Roland is a lump, basically."

(i'm cackling he just doesn't stop roasting poor roland does he)

This one was utterly useless for intelligent conversation. She regretted ever answering his questions and went back to being quiet. At least the one called Jackson didn't try to be irritating.

(Roland is very roastable, poor guy)

"But he's good with a wrench!" Jackson said with forced cheer. "He maybe made us, Bug."
"Maybe," Bug said doubtfully.

As they walked along she toyed with a thin metal ring on her right fourth finger. It was made of a coarse, dull metal, and was hardly noticeable on her dirty hands. It looked to be very crudely made from slag-ridden scrapmetal and filed down to the right size. When would they reach camp? The sooner she could be done with this group, the better. They couldn't offer her much besides company, and that she could do without.

"The walls of that one village seemed to suggest it," Jackson said firmly.
"A guy in profile with glasses and curly hair standing over a bunch of kneeling bots does not equal Roland inventing us," Bug scoffed. "That's all you have to go on."

Their chatter. It was incessant. Did they always talk like this? Maybe it was just that audible, discernable voices were so foreign after weeks in the silence of the barren wastes.

"Have you seen any stonework resembling this fellow here?" Jackson asked, jingling Roland's shackles. Roland sighed heavily.

"Nothing I can remember as significant." She felt slightly sorry for the poor fellow, being toted around by these beings that didn't understand the physical needs of a human being.

"Mm. See? You're glorifying a nobody, Jackson."
"I'm not sure." Jackson shook their head. "He just...feels important."

"If he knows anything about mechanics he's important. What happens when one of you gets an arm ripped off?" She specifically eyed the short, egotistical one.

"Then I beat my adversary with it," Bug retorted.
"And then you just have one long arm," Jackson pointed out. "Roland can help us, Bug."
"He hasn't yet!"

Rhys could envision herself relieving Bug of one of his arms if she had the chance, but the quick little bot would probably prove to be a problematic one to subdue. She glanced at Roland, planning again how she'd remove those chains.

Roland looked back at her, offering a small smile. "Have you met any other friendly travelers?" he asked.

"Nope." She wasn't lying. She hadn't seen anyone but them and the thieves of earlier for weeks, and before that only a few starved creatures and more roving bands of scavengers.

"Hm, that's too bad. We keep hoping there are others out there who haven't gone mad, but you're the first."
