"Yeah. Guess I've not gone mad just yet." She sometimes wondered about that one.
Fey he seemed, or the battle-fury of his fathers ran like new fire in his veins, and he was borne up on Snowmane like a god of old, even as Oromë the Great in the battle of the Valar when the world was young. - The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

"Good on you." He dipped his head to her. "It gets harder and harder each day, I think. To have hope, to feel like you have purpose..."
"The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear. Remember that." -Karis Nemik

She chuckled grimly. "Wouldn't that be nice."

(thinking of implementing an angsty character arc. In most RPs with Rhys she has this one friend who's the person who drags her along on all the adventures. well, Rhys is alone in this RP, meaning only one thing)

(Go for it! My characters are kinda comical in a Bone kind of way but Jackson and Roland have some arcs to go through, both angsty)

"Walking with these fine machines gives me purpose," Roland said. "They seem to be on a mission. They help people if they'll accept it. Well, Jackson helps. Bug is...he does it grudgingly. But they're working to change things in small ways right now."

Nothing would ever change, most likely. She just had no other choice but to fight at this point. The infuriating thing is that there seemed to be no stopping the spirits, they just kept coming. "Good luck with that." She muttered, so quietly nobody could hear over the crunching of rocks and sand beneath their feet.

"Do you have any family?" Roland asked next, unwilling to let his fellow human break conversation.

"Nope. Never did that I can remember." She'd been on her own making her own way for a long time, and contentedly so, at least until the end of the world happened.

"Oh." He frowned sympathetically. "I'm sorry to hear that. I can't recall any family members of my own either, I'm afraid."

"Never really thought much of whoever they were. Just kind of did my own thing." She continued to fidget with the ring on her finger.

"I suppose it's better not to have to worry about anyone," he mused. "I do wonder, though, if I had anybody who cared about me."

If he did, they were probably gone forever now, but she refrained from letting that unnecessary comment leave her mouth. Roland wasn't too bad she decided. A little pathetic, not very useful as of yet, but at least he wasn't a skulking genocidal mute or an egomaniacal metal cockroach.

"I suppose I could be a father. Maybe even a grandfather. Husband?" He shrugged. "I really have no memory after waking up in that dungeon."

She listened halfheartedly, her eyes drifting to the horizon, watching the light begin to fade even more.

"Do you suppose it'll be more friendly at the haven?" he asked.

"Hm?" She turned back towards him. "Not sure, might just be a load of crazy people. Nobody in their right mind is still overly friendly."
