“Of course.” Ky bobbed her head and turned back down the hall. She supposed she needed to get used to her word only being believed if there was the weight of a man behind it. Aleth. Now Gaius — not that that was the same at all. And yet it was.

Gaius had grown bored and hobbled into the shelves to search himself, scanning the books he could reach.

Ky came back out quietly, making no attempt whatsoever to be quick. She hesitated when she saw Gaius was gone. That was nice. Perhaps this was fate giving her a chance to slink back to her room to without having to explain herself. Yet getting the information from the librarians seemed easier than having to squeeze it out of Gaius tomorrow. And easier than trying to make sense of the books. She sat back down next to the table and picked up the book to give a half-hearted effort at appearing to read even though she was just looking at the drawing on one of the pages of an intricate tree.
