Ada gave her a quizzical look. "Yes, like a couple. Haven't you seen the way he looks at her?" She worried about that, sometimes. She had heard some other Akarataran slaves gossiping about May; the woman was very, very fragile. Ivar seemed like a dangerous sort. He was a huge man from the savage north; she knew the Far Northerners were usually kinder to their women--treated them as equals for the most part, superiors sometimes. But her mama always said never to trust men, and Ivar fit the bill of what to look out for with his dark brow and perpetual frown.
