It’d be incredibly painful to use the sword, at least the first few times. It was one thing to swing a dulled blade that may very well be as old as she was. It’d be another thing entirely to feel like she was destroying a gem as priceless as that. And yet. She had the distinct feeling Tomhas and Ka’Nor would be wildly disappointed if she refused to use their present. So she may as well get used to the idea.

“No doubt.” Ky glanced down the table, then back at Gaius. She did, in fact, doubt that he was patient. He seemed pissed off for her transgression of merely saying hi to him. “This will be good, I think…” she hesitated. “Not sure how it’d going to go if they can’t talk to each other, though…”
Ka’Nor was infinitely patient at explaining and re-explaining what she’d done wrong, and why it was wrong, and how to fix it. She couldn’t imagine learning from someone who couldn’t do anything more than gesture.

Ky nodded. “I hear you’re good at Nortung?” She wasn’t suggesting he be said translator, but it probably sounded that way. She continued quickly as she realized that fact. “I’m going to try to learn while I’m here. Maybe you can pick up some as well?” She glanced at Tadaaki.
“Maybe,” he agreed quietly, blushing a bit. There was no universe in which he could become fluent in a brand new language. Especially not if he was trying to learn reading and fighting on top of it all. “At the very least, I’m sure I can learn ‘duck’ and ‘block better’.”
“Hah!” Ky smirked and looked back at Gaius.

"I am fluent in Nortung," Gaius replied. "I could assist Rickard in teaching you both, if you wish, though I'll be quite busy most of the time." He personally didn't think he ought to; Rickard obviously needed some practice having authority and he'd defer to Gaius immediately if they shared teaching.
