"I get clean before we meet again. If we meet again. Still not sure. But I get clean anyhow and keep watch out here for bad men."
"The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear. Remember that." -Karis Nemik
"We should meet again," Ky said firmly. No ifs this time.

"Okay." He nodded. "We meet again, but we be careful. I eat something big first."

Ky nodded in agreement. "Deal... and we'll keep giving deer sometimes, too, right?" She looked at Gaius, only vaguely aware that he didn't really have the option of saying no without looking like a dick.

"Every night, if we can manage." Gaius nodded. "Got to keep you fed, right?" He still had many, many questions to ask, bug it seemed like it was too late. Maybe he'd come out here alone sometime soon after Rönn had eaten so they could talk.

(Now Gaius really out here being the one playing with fire haha)
Ky smiled and nodded once, decisively, turning back towards Rönn. "Maybe you can, uh... I don't know, leave some kind of a message when you wanna talk? Like, uh... put a rock down when you take the deer and then I'll know to come out the next night? Or, uh... uh... we could set a schedule? Like, uh..." Here she was, trying to strategize, when she was, in fact, terrible at strategizing. "Once every other week, just for a few minutes? Then you'll know to eat a lot before."

"Every other week, and I put rock down when bad time," he suggested. "You put rock down for important."

"Wait, so if you put a rock down it means I shouldn't come, but if I leave a rock then it means you will come, unless it's a bad time and you can't?"

"Yes." Rönn nodded. "Then we talk or not talk, every other week like you say. Good?"

"I go now." He looked around at the gathering. "I glad to meet you all. More live faces altogether than I see in long time...be well."

"Nice to meet you," Pratik murmured, also nodding.
Ky glanced at them, smiling a little with the hint of a superiority complex that there was, finally, something that she wasn't scared of that they were. Actually getting to be the confident one of the three of them. It felt nice.

"I hope you and I can speak further," Gaius said sincerely, giving a little bow. "I'm sure you have many stories, and I'd like to give you a better voice than the folktales have offered." Rönn studied him, surprised by the offer. Then he nodded. "Two rocks from me means I speak with you." He pointed to Gaius. "But you come to me, not other way." "Certainly." Gaius could barely contain his excitement; he gave a little shudder. "Certainly. Thank you!"

(nuuuu I now know how you felt yesterday xD like got this notif and was like yay response but also 'nuuu this is not a good time of day for my buddy to be awake' lol)
Ky grinned as she watched. It made her happy to get brief reminders that Gaius was, in fact, capable of joy and excitement. That even Michael couldn't completely crush every aspect of his personality.
Here was the closest to a glimpse of Gaius's inner child that Ky would ever see, and it was endearing. She was so glad this introduction had gone well. Glad that this entire thing had happened. That Gaius had screwed up, which led to her screwing up, which led to her uncles meeting Rönn and her getting to know his name in the first place! This was a good night indeed.

(I would also like to be asleep at this time of day but she woke me up again. On the bright side, it's snowing!)
Rönn nodded, then gave a final wave and plodded back in the direction he'd come from. Gaius watched him go, hands gripped tightly around his cane. The damaged one was jerking and twitching excitedly, so he kept it clamped under his good hand.
