Ky set the book to the side very, very carefully then went for the flat thick package and opened it.

“I’d like that,” Ky smiled, even though she definitely hoped Ana would forget. Exhibiting one of her weaknesses did not sound like a fun activity in front of her new family. She set it to the side and picked up another book shaped package.

Ky looked at him, startled, but nodded and obediently set it back down. What in the world could it be? She picked up an oddly shaped one instead.

This had a weight to it. "Another one of mine," Anneke said. It was a fitted breastplate with both chain and plate mail forming the fluid clothing. "It's made of Beast Metal, so it's extra strong and lacks conductive properties. Perfect for heat or cold."

“It’s incredible,” she breathed, looking at it in wonder. She lifted it a bit, silently wondering if she’d even be able to move in it. It was heavy. But wonderful. Zander watched with a smirk, reading exactly what was on her mind. She wasn’t doing a good job of hiding it. She looked up at Anneliese with a grin. “Thank you! I love it!”

Well, now, Zander needed to see her. He made an active point of not sparring with Ky or any of his other nieces. She didn’t even know that he knew how to sword in the first place. May as well keep it that way. There was no reason for her to know what he was capable. Of what he’d done. Now was there?
Still, he’d like to get a feel for her current skill level. He was already proud of her for trying, no matter how good or not she was.
