Well I ended up writing this today for my Nano, it was a bit of a pain as well...

But here we go:

A lawyer's life for me!

Working away our whole lives at sea,
We slave and we toil but merry we be,
We fight and we steal,
To get our next meal,
But we ain't complaining 'cause pirates we be.

I set out a sailin when I wa'r a lad,
I promised my m'aa that I wouldn' be bad,
Lost my money on drink,
And now that I think,
Should've been a lawyer just like me dad.

Could'a worked in an office stead'a out in the cold,
Stead'a freezing my feet off and scraping up mould,
I'd have got me a wife,
and a comfortable life,
No more searchin' the ocean for trinkets o' gold

I'd have spent all my days lyin' to the court,
Fiddlin' and deceivin' for the sake of a quart,
Let villains run free,
Commit purjury,
Buy me a ship and me own private port.

Then it sprung in my head on one miserable day,
I'd been whining and wasting my whole life away,
I made a decision,
Now I'm happy livin',
Burnin' an stealin' the old fashioned way.

Working away our whole lives at sea,
We slave and we toil but merry we be,
We fight and we steal,
To get our next meal,
But we ain't complaining 'cause pirates we be.
"Nostalgia's just not what it used to be..."

It's clever... not exactly the most deep and meaningful poem, but it was fun to read.
Nice work.

loverly poem, darling!

Oh, fun! I liked it. My Dad's been trying to talk me into being a lawyer since I could write; maybe I'll give up the writing business and go off and be a pirate...but then, I never did learn that whole sea-legs thing...

Muahahahaha, I've already read it. ^_^ The YWS chat is a wonderful thing.

So I shall merely re-iderate what I said in there: Ahem. Awesome.

I think it's great, especially for a humorous novel.

Cute poem. I especially liked the first and last stanza and its relation to Pirates of the Caribbean.

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me...

It's a funny song. It's like those happy, giggly song like Row Your Boat and the lots. It's not deep but the meanings can be easily seen.

It is most unlikely. But - here comes the big "but" - not impossible.
