How do you refer to yourself?

We all like to sound fancy in the writerly world! But how do you like to be known by your peers, family, friends, and enemies? Did I say enemies? I meant competition!

If your favorite isn't listed above, tell us here, or make up a great- or remarkable-sounding title in the thread! Who knows? If one sounds good enough, it could be the new name Nate chooses for the moderating staff!

I mean, master is a pretty good one. Siri calls me that all the time.

I usually go with "writer". The difference is in one's standing in the publishing process, IMO, so I'll probably go with "author" more often once I have something to say I'm the author of — like my novel, once it's published or on its way.
Technically, though, I do have a story published, so I guess I am an author, but for now it feels like I don't quite deserve that title yet.

I also quite like "storyteller". I think there's a difference between being a writer and being a storyteller, or at least that they can't quite be used interchangeably. I've been called both, and I agree with being both, so either is a title I'll proudly wear no matter whom I'm talking to.

Ideally, I'm Stormaggeddon, Dark Lord of All, not to steal from Doctor Who...

If I'm coming up with author titles, I like Loremaster or Keeper of the Archives, but I don't actually call myself either. I think of myself as the author of my book, but what I really do is write. I'm a writer.

I use writer! 'Author' always sounds too formal (and a little pretentious <.< but that's just my thoughts) to me. I write stuff, I don't 'auth' stuff.

I guess I would be known as a writer, because I thought "author" was more like a published writer (e.g. C. S. Lewis is the author of The Horse and his Boy.

But writing is more like a side-activity to me and I don't think I'll be a full-time writer when I grow up, so my family won't really call me a writer

I've gone by poet awhile now, since that's what I am--nothing too special about it, haha.

None. I'm not any of those things officially or by profession; I just say that I "like writing."

Since I'm both a poet and writer (and have been extensively involved in each), and have had a few essays published in the past, I guess I could call myself multipotentiate, or an poet-writer, or a writer-poet, or maybe even a Renassiance writer. Or just myself.

Writer. Because I think it encompasses both poetry and story writing - *read @TheSilverFox's post* It doesn't encompass both? ;-;

Ideally, though, laureate.

@SirLight: Usually I just assume writer to mean prose, while poet just refers to well, poetry, although I'm not absolutely sure about that? In the loosest sense, writer can definitely refer to both poetry and prose, since they are still forms of writing. So I also wouldn't mind calling myself a writer.

I am working on a book in which I am mostly doing editing work, so... Editor, I guess.

In professional settings, I use the real world job description of community manager.

In an informal setting, I circle between writer and YWSer.

I'm a writer/author/poet/artist/YWSer. I'm not just one thing. XD

I am an artist. A lot of my work encompasses many forms (visual and written) and I find it difficult to stay in just one area.

I like to think of myself as a word-smith, but most of the time I would say I'm a writer-poet (poet being the primary)
