Aurora Jacobs

Mr. Jameson stood at the front of the beige colored classroom. He was lecturing about something he deemed worthy of my attention however I wasn't listening. I never listened to a word he said. I knew better than to trust him, he reminded me far too much of villains in the books I poured over. Manipulative and self serving he was as deceptive as a Venus flytrap. I had always hated the comparison as sly as a fox because a fox is obviously dangerous. No the truly dangerous deceivers of the animal kingdom are the ones that invite you in and serve you dinner before killing you. The ones that make you relax and put down your guard before they strike, the ones who betray you. If I was a fox he was a Margay. A Margay is a cat that attracts its prey by mimicking calls of distressed babies so other animals come running to their deaths. I stared at the wall making my lack of attention obvious and defiant. I would never listen to him again, not after what happened to Jesse.
"Attention all students and staff, we have to implement an immediate evacuation of the school. There are individuals on the property that are causing harm to the stud-..." A loud thud sounded among the other side of the intercom and I covered my ears as the voice let out a scream. "Oh my God, they're inside! NO! No, get off me! It's biting my leg! NOOOO! OH MY GOD SOMEONE HEL-..." The intercom cut off leaving everyone in the room speechless. I sat at my desk in shock waiting for someone to do something.
The Margay man strode confidently to the door with an eerie smile on his face. "Come dear students!" he said sweeping his hand out to the hall. "We shall find a means of escaping this situation." All of us immediately rushed into the hall like lambs to the slaughter. Kids were screaming and running. Soon we were abandoned by our "brave" teacher and left to fend for ourselves. I thought of my friends Grace and Rachel who were in history. I ran to the history class hoping I could find them. A boy named Aaron started shouting at everyone but I ran past him.

My only thought was of finding them. When I did I wished I hadn't. They were lying in a pool of blood moaning. I crouched beside them and sobbed as my world came tumbling down. Rachel bolted upright and clawed at me. Shocked I crawled away knowing that they were dead but willing myself to believe there was still hope.
No something wasn't right Rachel had a slash through her neck and would never have been able to move. Grace hadn't stirred from where she lay on the floor.
"Rachel?" I asked carefully.
She leapt toward the sound of my voice with death as her goal. I sobbed and retreated down the hall.
My friends were gone. My stomach did a flip and expelled my breakfast. I slouched against a wall for a minute but was forced to move when I noticed more shuffling students.
Blind with fear and despair I ran back to Mr. Jameson's class. In a moment of clarity I saw him pull Abigail into a closet.
Anger overpowered my fear and mixed with mourning it was the perfect weapon. I charged toward the closet and flung the door open.
"Come on guys we have to get to the roof!" I shouted at them.
I grabbed Abigail's hand and led her away from the Margay hoping he wouldn't follow us.
Why do we capital-N Nerds love Mars so much?
Because it's beautiful, it's tough, it's buried in our mythic, childhood memories.
It's covered with human triumphs but also with sad stories of failure.

Carlos Valdez

It had begun with a distinct feeling of unease that crept up his neck. The next thing he knew, shouts of "oh my God they're inside! NO! No get off me! It's biting my leg! NOOOO! OH MY GOD SOMEONE HEL..." were echoing through the school, and people were fleeing. He'd only wanted to pick his little brother up, not be caught up in what was beginning to resemble the Zombie Apocalypse.

"Leo!" Carlos shouted, "Leo, where are you?"

He pushed back through crashing masses of people crushed in the corridor. Zombies pursued the people. Carlos froze, shuddered, and turned back, beginning to run and hurry the fleeing people up.

Shouts of to the roof and Dear God! made Carlos worry about the probability of him suffering cardiac arrest. He scanned the crowd for his little brother as he went, helping people who fell back onto their feet. The zombies shuffled along behind them.

Endless, confusing, unfamiliar corridors spread out and twisted in front of him as he followed the swathes of people - people who didn't look anything his brother. Had he been eaten? Turned into a zombie? Had his end been merciful? Had he been afraid? Had he even been bitten - or eaten, or consumer, or killed, whatever the monsters intended to do to those they captured? Was he still alive, crushed in the fear of the crowd, and searching for him?

He pushed such dark thoughts away. Behind him were the zombies, an even darker reality.

In front of him, a redhead, freckled girl dragged another pupil out of the way of the zombies. They crossed a hall, ushering the younger kids, like they knew exactly what they were doing. I'll follow them, then Carlos thought.

He crept as quietly as he could around the zombies as the kids vanished up the stairs. He kept his breathing quiet, slow, and steady as he padded around the zombies. They were disgusting, horrible, awful things. They were the kind of things he'd see in his nightmares. He shuddered. His limbs trembled. His heart was beginning to race again.

He tripped.

The zombies shuffled around at the thud, rotating and moving towards him, prowling like drunken wolves. He dragged himself along the floor, faster and faster, as fast as his flabby arms would carry him. The zombies wouldn't stop their advance.

Carlos yelped and scrambled to his feet as zombies swiped at him. A deceased hand almost grabbed him by the scruff of his neck - he instead jerked away and felt the hand on his hair as he leaped for the door.

He stood up and slammed the door behind him and scurried up the stairs after the kids, panting and feelings as if he were about to faint.

Please, don't faint.
Don't resist the water. Welcome it.

Asklova
Asklova crawled through the vents, her slender form easily sliding past the metal sides of the route. Chert! Which way do I go? She hadn't been in this school very long, much less America. She didn't know this school as well as most students. Asklova thought about what options she had. Well, buildings go upwards. Must mean vent go up too. Asklova looked at the path ahead of her. There was a separation just a few meters away and she crawled towards it. One path lead up the other lead straight. Asklova turned to the uppermost path and examined it. The vent resumed its straight route about five feet above her. Asklova jumped and caught the ledge, hanging just an inch above the ground. Using her incredible upper body strength, she pulled herself through and slipped herself into the next tunnel.

The gap was small, but large enough for her to sneak through. She could feel a draft coming from the vent ahead of her. Fresh air possibly? She crawled towards it, jubilation filing her stomach. She now could see four lines of light ahead of her, like sunlight through a grate. Asklova crawled faster. She reached the end and ahead of her was the roof of the school. At least, that's what it looked like. There was no one on the roof at the time being and Asklova tried to knock the vent grate off. It was stuck fast and wouldn't budge. Asklova gritted her teeth and was about to try again, but at that moment she heard a door open and the sound of footsteps filled the air. She shrank back, watching as some high school students came onto the roof. Asklova could hear muff
led talking and could only make out a few words.

"...Apocalypse...what...why...how..."

"Hey!" Asklova shouted, banging on the vent, "Let me out! HEY!" The talking stopped and she heard some people coming towards her.

"What was that?"

"That banging on the vents?"

"Is it one of them?" Asklova banged on the vents harder.

"Get me out!" she shouted. One of the people moved forward but another held them back.

"Don't," they said, "What if it's one of them?'

"One of them?" Asklova shouted, "net ya ne odin iz nikh vint vy poluchite menya otsyuda, chert poberi!"

"Are you sure it's one of them?" asked a boy to the far left.

"We can't be too cautious," said the one who refused to let Asklova out of the vent.

"YA povtoryayu, ya ne odna iz tekh veshchey! YA chelovek! Vypusti menya! Klyanus' bogom, vypustite menya, i my oba delayem eto!"

"Yeah, that's not a zombie," said one of the people.

"I'll say," the voice came form the back. It was a creepy looking teacher that truly looked like a narushitel' spokoystviya, "That would be an angry Russian. Let me get her out."

Esher

Screams fill the halls. I ignore them, sticking to the wall, making as little sound as possible. The blind people – I refuse to call them zombies – shuffle by me, not even taking notice. It proves my theory that they’re only drawn to sound. That would mean they hunt by sound, like most predators, but not using any sight, like most deep cave species. Do they go by touch, as well? So far they seem to just be grabbing screaming students, so I can only assume so. Touching them, at the moment, is a big no-no. So, staying right against the wall will be the safest place.

The screams seem to grow louder, one of them faintly sounding like my name. I ignore it, afraid I’m going crazy. Besides, no one knows my name.

“Esher! C’mon!” A red haired girl brushes passed me, directing me toward the stairs. My gaze lands on a girl standing in the crowd, looking right at me. I frown, wondering why she has such a hurt expression on her face. She turns away from me, pushing the screaming students up the stairs. I race that way, building up speed, weaving between the mass of moving bodies with ease.

Finally, the doorway comes into view, and I push through the throng of students that are no longer screaming, and move to a secluded part of the roof. I watch as kids come rushing out of the doors, moving as far away from them as possible. Eventually the flow of kids trickles to a stop, a dark haired man shutting the doors as he stumbles onto the roof. Everyone looks around, wondering who will step up to guide us. Everyone starts muttering about an apocalypse and why it’s happening. I’m still refusing to see the blind people as reanimated dead people.

A loud banging sound coming from one of the vents makes me jump. I spin toward the grates as people around it start to move toward the banging. I furrow my brow, wondering if it’s one of the blind people. Although I don’t think they can climb, and those vents aren’t exactly spacious. Some people start questioning the cause of the banging, speculating it to be one of the blind people. I’m about to speak up when I hear words coming from the vent. Is that Russian? A lecturer I haven’t seen before steps forward, a sly grin on his face.

“I’ll say,” he announces, moving over to the vent. “That would be an angry Russian. Let me get her out.”

He grips the side of the grates and pulls hard, although the metal doesn’t seem to budge. I watch with an almost – almost – amused grin on my face as the lecturer struggles a little with the grate. My eyes flit around and I find a piece of metal. I pick it up and walk toward the vent. The lecturer looks at me, his smile changing a little. He looks me over, and I feel as though I’m standing in front of a black heron. He seems trustworthy, but there’s something underneath the mask of his, like it’s just a lure to get me to assume it’s safe. Funnily enough, I feel anything but safe standing in front of him.

“Thank you for –“

“Move,” I snap. The lecturer just stares at me in shock. I push him out of the way and jam the piece of metal into the side of the vent, pushing as hard as I can until the grate comes flying off, clattering to the ground. A girl with very long, red hair falls to her feet, looking around with wide eyes. She looks at me and smiles, but I drop the metal and walk away, not wanting to have to initiate conversation. I find my secluded corner of the roof again and listen as conversation returns to the problem at hand. Someone asks a very interesting question, and I find myself moving closer to hear if anyone has made some useful observations.

“Are they blind?” A girl asks.

“They hunt by sound,” I pipe up. People look up. “Sound attracts them. They don’t use sight. I don’t know if they use touch as well to hunt, but it might be a better idea not to touch them anyway.”

“Are you a fucking expert, then?” Someone snarls.

I turn my cold gaze toward the speaker. “No, I’m just using my brain and what I’ve seen. It’s okay if you don’t share the same intellect,” I bite out. A few people chuckle.

“Aren’t you a biology student?” The girl that had given me the hurt look, asks.

“Yes, but I specialise in animals,” I say quietly. “The blind people seem to be showing the hunting patterns of some predators, using their sense of hearing to locate their prey. I don’t know at what range they can hear at, but I’m going to assume it’s the normal human range, because they are human.”

“So they’re people?” Someone calls out.

“Yeah, I saw some of the kids in my English class bitten by some, and then they started biting other people,” another person yells.

“It could be a virus, then,” I muse, “spreading through blood. If anyone has been bitten by these people, then they run the risk of becoming one of them.”

“We need to make sure no one has been bitten!” A male voice yells. Everyone starts to murmur, some people moving away from others, in fear of infection. “Buddy up and check to make sure no one is bitten.”

“What if someone’s been bit?” A girl asks.

No one responds. I don’t think anyone does. I notice that the majority of the people up here are kids. There are probably four or five lecturers up here, including the black heron man. He seems to be taking advantage of the situation, herding students – girls mostly – into his corner, probably using a false sense of security. Black heron. I don’t like him already. Everyone else seems to be buddying up, and I make a point of steering away from people. A bark catches my attention, and I turn around to see a boy backing away from two large dogs, one being a Schäferhund – German Shepherd Dog – while the other is an American Akita. They stand at attention in front of a boy with bright, curly red hair. Frowning, yet curious at the same time, I walk toward him, eyes on the boy. The dogs notice my approach and growl low. I shift my attention to the dogs, lowering my gaze and moving slowly, not standing directly in front of them. The dogs seem to show an interest, but don’t stop growling a warning. I stop walking and lower myself into a crouch, offering my hand in a closed fist, eyes on the Shepherd’s chest, being as he’s closest.

“How do you know to do that?” The curly haired boy asks me.

I lift my gaze to his. “I’m more inclined to animals,” I admit. “And the last thing I want is to be attacked by your dogs.”

“Well, you do have a good point there,” he smiles, and looks at his dogs. “Sit,” he barks. The two dogs lower themselves onto their haunches, ears back, waiting for the next command from their owner. “Why are you over here?”

“To tell you everyone needs to be checked for bites,” I glance at the dogs again, not making eye contact. “I also want to know why you have dogs up here.”

“Protection,” the boy grins at me. “You can stand up, you know.”

I slowly rise to my feet and lower my hand to my side. “Thanks,” I mutter.

“Are you British?” The boy asks. “I’ve been trying to place your accent.”

“Yes,” I nod.

“Nice,” he grins at me. “So, are you just over here to tell me we need to be checked for bites, or is it also because you don’t have a partner.”

Reluctantly, realising I don’t really have any other option, I nod my head. This makes him smile wider. I wince. Well done, idiot. Now you’re going to have a strange boy looking you over for injuries. Because this is exactly what you want. Why can I be so stupid sometimes?

Of course I am.
Why?
Because frankly the food here tastes like poorly cooked sawdust. It genuinely tastes how Solas looks.

Sanda Ambrosi

The hallway had changed. Where only a few minutes ago there had been swarms of screaming people, now it was almost silent, but far from empty. The sick people, if one could call them that, had become a large flock. They moved slowly as if they were wading through syrup.
The only signs of real humans were distant screams and sirens.

Sanda stood frozen in the doorway, fighting the urge to turn back.
It's not worth it… these people, or creatures… would kill her just like they killed that boy… but what if this was her last chance… she would really need it… it was her life… but death…

As her thoughts sped up in her dilemma she watched the sick creatures.
None of them had noticed her so far. They seemed to be blind. Their eyes were empty, dead, rotten. Their arms, or what was left of them, gripped the air, occasionally slamming into the walls and lockers, leaving smears of blood behind. Although many suffered from considerable wounds they did not seem to be bothered. They were dead, but at the same time not.

They brought memories of stories she had listened to when she had grown up.
They were undead, like the Strigoi. Yet the Strigoi was more like a vampire, the grandfather of vampires.
These had more similarities with these Zombies that were so popular in American pop-culture. But that was ridicules… that simply could not be. There had to be a different explanation.

A chemistry teacher slouched past dangerously close. Her broken jaws slamming together, creating eerie, grinding noises. A tooth fell out. Sanda shuddered and suppressed a wince. When she was gone she let her lungs expand again. She had stayed undiscovered. Maybe, if she moved very quietly she would manage to reach her locker, it was only a few meters away. She gripped her key tightly in her damp hand and waited until her path was more or less clear.

With the feeling of walking into a nest of venomous snakes, she stepped into the school. The floor was covered in blood, guts and bones and forgotten schoolbooks. Her stomach churned as a sticky, bile smell reached her nose.
Please, let it be over soon.
Careful step, after careful step she made. It took forever and once she nearly let out a shriek as a Zom- no sick creature twisted around abruptly and swayed towards her, yet she managed to duck under its arm. As she touched the door of her locker she nearly started to sob in relief.

It is hard to be quick and quite, especially if you are surrounded by flesh-eating, undead creatures.
The door opened with a metallic squeak that seemed to vibrate through the whole school.
Cacat
Her hands scrambled in terror through the locker.
It wasn’t there. It wasn’t there. I t wasn’t- oh yes here it was. She clutched it in one hand, grabbed her asthma inhaler instinctively in the other and the swiveled around to stare into the bloody mouth of one of the creatures.

What Esher was saying made sense. Charlie had thought it too, that sound was how the zombies navigated. She chuckled to herself, it all sounded so ridiculous. Zombies. Yet that was what they were.

"Could you check me?" She asked a stranger with tanned skin and crazy black hair. He was the closest person, and she didn't feel like making an effort to socialise at that moment.

"Sure," he said, "I'm Carlos." She made eye contact, trying to be polite though her mind was occupied by blood and gore. His brown eyes were damp, ringed with red. She realised why when he added, "My brother goes here. Leo?"

"Oh." Charlie couldn't recall the boy in question, but she could imagine a kid being eaten alive by one of the monsters downstairs. She bit her lip and shook her head, trying to erase the image from her mind. "I don't know him, but I'm sure he's fine."

As Carlos raised her arm to check for bites, Charlie pulled a rubber band from her pocket and started twirling it around her finger. She looked into the distance, at the tall skyscrapers and the roofs of houses, and tried to locate her own home. She never could though, it was always blocked by the hulking hospital. It was a massive building with walls which used to be white, but were now covered in swirls of grey and rusty-brown.

She heard a siren, and wondered what things were like at the hospital. In the whole city. There were a couple pillars of smoke, as if people were trying to burn the creatures. And in the streets she could see there were a lot of cars, though they weren't moving very fast. Charlie thought about her parents. Were they okay?

Her finger went numb and Charlie realised she'd wrapped the band around it. She quickly pulled it off, lacing it around her wrist in case it was needed later. Maybe I can make a sling shot, she thought. Though how were they meant to fight these things? Some of them were already dead. How did you kill something that was already dead?

"You're all good." Carlos pulled her from her chaotic thoughts. "Check me now."

"Oh, yeah, sure." She shook her head again, clearing her mind. Then Charlie started searching Carlos' skin for bite marks or scratches. There didn't seem to be any, luckily. She didn't want to think about what they'd do if someone had been bitten.

Thomas Brown

Sanda walked off, muttering something under her breathe. Should I call out to her? Should I follow her? Back into the school? The one filled with Zombies? I think I'll stay out here for now. It's what everyone else seems to be doing! And why go against popular vote! Right?
Except one guy, Tom Sutcliffe, who was walking straight into the infested zone with-creepy -people-who-forgot-how-to-talk with two adorable dogs. Why would he go back? Why would anyone go back? To help people? Why do that when it's safe out here? Nice and safe. I like nice and safe.
Like a cliché in a bad movie, I ran after him. How was I going to help anyone? I couldn't wait to see the news reports. “Local idiot dies by going back into school.”
I called after Tom, but he didn't look back. I knew Tom because I was often mistaken by him since my name is Thomas. Like the train. That's not really what my Dad would like to compare me to though. Don't ever ask my dad why I was named Thomas Micheal Brown, because he will go on a worshiping football rant no one wants to hear. Trust me.
Tom went up the emergency stairs to the roof, where he arrived much faster, due to the fact that his fitness level was not worse than a chihuahuas like mine. When I did get up there, there were like 15 other students here too. What was this? Another party I wasn't invited too?
“What if someone's been bit?” Someone asked. No one said anything, instead they paired up and started checking for bites. Should I join someone? Standing alone was Hunter Stone, the guy who sat in my Math class.
“Hello”, I said smiling trying to be polite. Hunter did not smile back. Don't smile. Don't smile. Be cool. Cool like...an ice cube. “Do you want to check each other out?”
Hunter gave me a weird look.
“For bites I mean! Zombie bites! Not like check check each other out! Not like that. Not at all! Obviously not like that...” And then I laughed. Too loud. Much too loud.
“Sure.”
“Strip each other naked. We need to make 100% sure no one is infected!” Someone said.
“Sorry! Excuse me! What? Strip down to like...nothing?” I yelled back.
“You heard me! Now take off your clothes!” he yelled back. Part of me wanted to yell back, “take me to diner first”, I'm so glad I didn't.
I looked over to Hunter and smiled awkwardly.
“You wanna go first?” I asked.
“You're asking me if I want to strip down naked first in front of a crowd of people?”
“Umh, yes.” I said.
To my surprise, Hunter took off his shirt, trousers, and then his boxers.
“I'm not that shy.” he smirks.
“Umh, well, you seem to be free of bites...Zombie bites at least.” I blushed.
“You don't want to check the back?” he asked. I looked around, to other people who were undressing down to nothing. Is there a nudist after school club I don't know about or something?
“I do.” And then he turned his but to me. “Your but is without bites.”
He turns around, grabs his clothes and puts them back on.
“Come on.” he said, “your turn!” he says, his face back to monotone.
“Can't you just trust me?” I ask.
“I don't know you.” he says.
“And what you don't know can't hurt you..” I try to bargain.
“Dude....take off your pants.”
By this time, to all my regrets, everyone had already taken off their clothes and put them back on, so I was the only one. So my lovely classmates decided to patiently stare at me while I took off my clothes.
“See completely biteless!” I said.
“Whats that?” a girl asked pointing to my chest.
“ A birth mark! Can I please put my clothes back on? I'm cold.”
“Turn around.” she commanded. And I did, mooning half my school. This was for sure coming on the internet. “Local idiot flashes everyone during the apocalypse!”
“You can put them back on now.” Hunter says.
“Thank you.” I say, and quickly put them back on as fast as I have ever in my life done. So obviously I end up with my shirt upside down and my trousers the wrong way and then I have to take longer to put them back off and then on properly, during which no one says a word.

(Hope you liked it! I know Dracula didn't do the whole stripping down naked thing so if you want me to change it I will! :)

Mr. Jameson

There she was. In the darkness of the closet he had one of the women that he had imagined as part of his harem. Now with the end of the world, and a little convincing, he might be able to wrap her around his pinky.

Then the door flew open. There stood Aurora. She looked scared to death and completely pissed. Though she was another that she had thought about drawing into his fantasy, she had grown wise to him due to a friend of hers.

"Come on guys, we have to get to the roof!" she shouted. Then she grabbed Abigail and led her away.

With a curse under his breath, he hurried after them. The horde in the halls was getting worse and soon he would be barricaded into the small room without any supplies.

"Hurry now! Hurry now! Remain calm and head up in an orderly fashion!" he said as if he were trying to control the situation, even though everyone knew there was no control.

He spied Aaron on the steps moving down to hold off the creatures that sought their flesh. "Such heroism! Watch yourself my dear student!" he cried as he made his way onto the roof with the others.

The students were already in a panic. But his sly looks let him swoop in with that caring facade planting a seed in their minds of who had control.

As the vents started rattling, with a voice that began a string of angry Russian he moved forward to the vent. "Let me get her out." He tried pulling at the grate with his pristine nails to no success.

That's when the ice haired beauty arrived and pried the grate open using both smarts and brawn. Her icy exterior was not one that he thought he could get passed....at least not yet. For now he would wait and keep his eyes open.

Aaron Marshall

Aaron could tell that they were losing ground fast. If someone didn't stem the tide, they would be over run and they would never get the door closed. Rushing down a flight he began hammering away with hands and feet. Keeping a few of the shambling corpses away and tossing them to the side. Each body that he dropped only rolled back to its feet to continue the fight.

Aaron was slowly backing up the stairs, his shirt and pants getting soaked in blood. His arms slick with the stale life liquid. Rushing up the stairs, he looked little better than the zombies that were right behind him. So it was no wonder that they tried to close the door on him. With his shoulder he forced the door open and quickly shut it, bracing it with this shoulder. "Get something to brace this!" He ordered. "Boards! Pipes! Bricks! Anything!" He felt them hammer against the door, frame groaning at the force being applied.

A small group quickly began stacking everything they could find on the roof against the door, equalizing the force between the two. Aaron slowly stepped away, watching to make sure the door didn't give.

"Lucky they can only put a dozen or so against the door at a time," he panted as he looked around. The entire crowd had gone quiet as they stared at him, covered in splatters of blood.

"He can't stay here!" one of the panicking students called out. "There is no way that blood isn't his!"

"I just risked my life to fight back that fucking horde! A damn thank you would be nice!" Aaron retorted.

"He must be bit!" another called out. A surge of students moved toward him before he heard a voice speak up.

"You can't just assume that! Let him strip down so we can make sure!"

Aaron didn't recognize the student that spoke but he was hesitant to undress in front of everyone.

"Is...there any chance that I can strip down just in front of one person...privately?" he asked.

"Why!? So you can hide your bite!?"

"No! You strip down right here! Right now!"

Aaron looked to the crowd that were now fixed on him. He didn't want to undress. He didn't even shower with the other sports students after practice and matches.

His shoulders slumped when he saw that there was no way around having an audience. He turned around so his back was to them before he pulled his blood covered shirt off. Streaks of the blood that had soaked through painted his skin. But what made everyone gasp was the scars that were riddled across his back. Scars from cuts and burns were all over his torso and upper arms, anywhere that was easy to hide.

Next came the pants....and even more scars. Scars lined the back of his thighs like he was whipped.

Then the boxers to ensure that every inch of his skin was visible before he turned. His front having just as many scars as the back. This was why he didn't undress. Those scars were why he allows kept himself covered.

"Satisfied?" Aaron asked in an agitated manner. A murmur moved through the crowd with affirming nods. He sighed as he grabbed his boxers and pulled them back on. With them being the only thing not saturated in zombie blood he looked to the clothes on the ground.

He sighed as he picked them up and tossed them off the roof. He didn't know if whatever this was could be caught through the blood on his skin, but he didn't want to chance it. He shuddered a little as the breeze picked up.

"You took those things on with your bare hands?" a voice behind him inquired.

He turned to address the person that was talking to him.

Spoiler
I left two spots for other characters to step in and speak up for and to Aaron. First come first served.

Meredith

I was standing in the group of people watching Aaron as he removed his clothes, everyone had been freaking out because he could have been bitten by a zombie. It was definitely just blood from the zombie.

He was embarassed. Shit, taking my clothes off in front of people I barely knew would freak me out too.

The scars on his body showed how much of abuse he had possibly been in as a child. It was a terrible thought to know he could have been hurt by his own family. No kid deserved pain.

I didnt know his back story but even though he was covered in scars from head to toe he still looked beautiful.

"You took those things on with your bare hands?" Someone had asked from the back. I turned away and went to sit in a corner. I needed time to breathe and gather my senses. What the holy moly hell was going on in this town?

"What are we doing up here guys?" I couldn't help but ask. We needed to have a game plan.

"It was our only option, Meredith."

I sighed, it was hot here and I was panicking.

"What are we going to do now though? We can't just live up here. What if it rains? No shelter. We don't even have food. We wouldn't last 2 weeks up here."

No one had seemed to think this through. Of course they didn't, they were all just wanting safety.

"We will all figure something out." Aaron responded.

He seemed to be the Alpha Dog of the group.

"Look there is a ledge. Maybe we can climb down it?" Someone had said. It was an idea, that is something.

I looked down the ledge, "we might be able to get down it but I don't think it will be possible to go back up." I told them.

All I wanted was to know where to go from here.

Kurieitā
Today will be a good day Kurieitā thought as she wondered the woods around her house, searching for her hiding place that she built years before; singing along to the music that was being played from her Ipod. Having stayed home "sick" she was free to make up homework that was due weeks ago that she didn't have time for. She tucked her binder under her arm as she looked around, searching for a tree for her to climb since the hideout was too hidden, even for her.
That one is good Kurieitā thought as she laid eyes upon one of the tallest trees. She stuck her notebook into her backpack, already crowded with snacks, that she had slung across her back, and quickly scaled it.
The view was amazing, as always, and she could see everything even the school in the distance.
Why are there so many people crowded around the school like that? she wondered, trying to get a closer look. Kurieitā quickly stood up and started hopping from tree to tree, a quicker way to get from place to place, until she couldn't go any further. She peered into the clearing again, having gotten significantly closer she could see what was happening. What she saw was something out of a science fiction horror story, the clearing was filled with zombies?!
What if someone is still in there!? She thought. The screams and panicked cries coming from inside only confirmed her worst thoughts. Kurieitā quickly scrambled down from the tree and landed quietly, not wanting the zombies to notice her. She carefully dropped onto all fours, an easier way to keep quiet than tip-toeing she found out from mimicking wolfs, and carefully made her way over. There were a couple of trees in the clearing and she scurried up one before any of the zombies could detect her presence. There was a small open window right outside her perch, so she jumped into it. It was one of the many science labs. It looked like it was recently abandoned, the chemical closet was raided and everyone was gone. In the hallway she could hear cries of "to the roof."
Kurieitā quickly jumped back out the window and into the tree. She climbed until she could safely jump out onto the roof. She braced herself, bending her knees she jumped and grabbed onto the ledge before she could fall down. Scrambling up, she could see figures on the other side. "Hey!" She called as she sprinted over. "Is this everyone?"

Asklova
She stared in shock at that boy, takin goff his clothes.

"O bozhe moy bozhe moy," she murmured, averting her eyes.

"What?" someone said. That someone was a girl, staring at the naked boy with obvious amazement. Well, almost everyone was doing that. Asklova glared at them through cracked fingers.

"Unlike you Americans," she spat, "I have a bit of decency." Once the boy had his boxrs back on, she came up behind him and took a breath.

"You took those things on with your bare hands?" she asked. Aaron turned to her and was about to answer but someone else spoke instead.

"What are we doing up here guys?" It was a girl in a corner. She looked so stressed and sad that Asklova almost felt sorry for her.

"It was our only option Meredith." Asklova tuned them out at she looked around the roof. There were obviously plenty of things to climb and stay out of danger, at least for her. She wasn't sure around everyone else.

"Hey!" Asklova looked up to see someone running towards them, "Is this everyone?"

"Yes," the boy who's gotten undressed first said, "And we need to make sure everyone's clean of bites." He nodded to Asklova.

"You next, crazy Russian." Asklova glared at him with such intensity, he looked a little uncomfortable.

"Fine," she spat. She took off her shirt and undergarments. Her well defined back muscles and arm muscles rippled as she took off her jeans and underwear. She was super strong as was evident by the raw strength and energy just under the skin. Asklova was an amazing sight, with her body builder form and slender stature.

"Wow." There was a breathless comment from behind her, "She-" Asklova turned around and glared in that direction. The boy who'd let out the comment instantly shut up and she turned back to the boy who told her to go next.

"Happy?" she said. The boy nodded. He was speechless as well.

"Good," she said and put her clothes back on. All eyes were on her and her muscular form as she got redressed.

"How are you that... strong?" someone asked. Asklova sniffed.

"I am part of circus. Famous circus in Russia," she replied quickly, "Who's next?"

The whistle shrieked from Coach's mouth, and I went off like a rocket. The six other girls running beside me quickly were lost behind as the wind that blows.

The whistle shrieked again... And again... And... again?

I put my feet down and slowly come to a halt, taking a look back quizzically and realizing that the sound was not the Coach's whistle at all, but loud sirens coming from all around the school. Suddenly, the intercom blared to life.

"Attention all students and staff, we have to implement an immediate evacuation of the school. There are individuals on the property that are causing harm to the stu-" The principal's voice was cut short by the sound of breaking glass on the intercom, followed quickly by his screams of terror.

"Oh my God they're inside! NO! No get off me! It's biting my leg! NOOOO! OH MY GOD SOMEONE HEL-"

Seemingly simultaneously, the sirens stopped with the intercom, and the world was eerily silent as the girls look around at each other in confusion and shock. Then, all hell broke loose on the opposite side of the school fence. Explosions rocked the street only a few blocks away, and car horns blared all around. The coach finally got her bearings and waved her arms vigorously. "Everyone! Everyone inside! Report to your homeroom class immediately!" The field and track was transformed then into a nigh stampede, the students panicking and running in fear. I'm swept along in the sea of bodies until I reach the doors in the main hallway, where no one was any calmer.

Stepping out of the main river of students, I stand on my tiptoes and look down the hall, over the mass of heads back in the direction everyone is coming from. A few people turn the corner, staggering slowly and limping as if in pain. I shouted out, "Hurry! We've got to get to-" Where are we supposed to go? The question suddenly became irrelevant when the previously sluggish students whipped their heads in the direction of my voice and hurried their pace.

As they came closer and the last of the students cleared past me, the injured people came into focus and I could see what was so clearly wrong.

"M- Margaret?"

I call my friend's name out to her, to no response apart from a languid groan and quickened shuffling step. "Margaret? What... Oh my god...." Finally, my friend came into the light of the florescent bulb, revealing long streaks of blood trailing down her torn face. I put my hands to my face then as she lunges, hissing at me and snapping her savaged jaw.

I spun in a panic and feel my backpack, filled with heavy textbooks, connect solidly with Margaret's head, and a wet snapping sound follows close behind. Flinging the pack down and running after the throng of students, I turn back to see my friend biting rabidly at the cloth bag and shaking her head like an animal. Close to tears, I reach the top of the stairs and find myself outside on the roof, where more confused and scared students and teachers are gathering.

I take a long, deep breath before making my way across the roof and taking a spot in the back, away from most people and wiping my eyes in an attempt to calm myself. Margare-.... That thing only responded when I called out... I ask then, to no one in particular, "Are they blind?"

Several students turn, startled by the sudden speech, but thankfully another voice pipes up from the crowd. “They hunt by sound." More people turn to the voice. "Sound attracts them. They don’t use sight. I don’t know if they use touch as well to hunt, but it might be a better idea not to touch them anyway.” I make my way along the outside of the crowd until I can see the source of the voice. Someone practically jumps down her throat. "Are you a fucking expert then?"

The girl doesn't even flinch, but turns her eyes towards the questioner. “No, I’m just using my brain and what I’ve seen. It’s okay if you don’t share the same intellect.” Despite the circumstances, I almost cracks a smile. Sassy... Isn't that the new exchange student? Someone pipes up again. "Aren't you a biology student?" The girl nods.

“Yes, but I specialize in animals. The blind people seem to be showing the hunting patterns of some predators, using their sense of hearing to locate their prey. I don’t know at what range they can hear at, but I’m going to assume it’s the normal human range, because they are human.”

A younger boy blurts out. "So they're people?"

Another voice. "“Yeah, I saw some of the kids in my English class bitten by some, and then they started biting other people!"

The girl furrows her brow and narrows her eyes, talking to her self now. "It could be a virus then." I can only just make out her words, and make my way closer. "Spreading through blood..." She looks up suddenly and addresses the crowd again.

"If anyone has been bitten by these people, then they run the risk of becoming one of them.”

There is a brief moment of realization before someone shouts. "We need to make sure no one has been bitten!" The crowd reacts as a whole then, murmuring and moving this way and that to get away from strangers. I pipe up, "What if someone’s been bit?"

No one answers my query. Just as well.... I'm not sure what we could do...

The girl backs away from the group and out of my sight as she walks toward the edge of the building, crouching below my line of sight, and suddenly a large hand is on my arm.

I look over and up into the face of Mr. Jameson, the Literature teacher. I suppress a shudder from where he is holding me and pull away, but he stays near by. "We should all check one another for bites." He says. Students all around seems to hear this look over to him. He speaks up louder. "Everybody strip down! We can't risk someone up here turning into one of those things!" A boy's voice emanates from the crowd.

"Sorry? Excuse me? What? Strip down to like...nothing?"

Mr. Jameson's eyes flash and he yells back. “You heard me! Now take off your clothes!” He slowly and deliberately turns his head back to me. "We can't be too careful..." He stares intently and when I hesitate, he frowns. "Go on! I for one am not about to be killed by some... some zombie thing! Strip!"

I look around uncomfortably before turning my back to the man and pulling my track shorts down about my ankles, following with my tank top coming up over my head. I'm red as a beet at this point, but looking around I am calmed that many of the other students are as well. Mr. Jameson's eyes flit up and down my body and I hastily pull my clothes back on and hurry away into the crowd. It is only when I am on the other side of the roof that I realize I'm now standing right beside the girl who deduced that the creatures relied on sound.

She seems to be lost in thought, but looks up with an annoyed face when I take a seat on the concrete beside her. "I, um... Where do you think those things came from? It doesn't seem real that all this could happen so suddenly." I try my best to keep my voice steady, even as she levels her icy gaze at me...

Spoiler
I hooooope this is alright! I'm really sick at moment so I apologize for a pretty clunky post. I will do better in future!

Sanda Ambrosi

“Everyone listen up!”, a muffled yell erupted from the speakers "The emergency stairs are filled with these things! Head to the roof! It's the only place left! Head to the roof!"

The creatures head turned around in confusion. This was her chance.
She ran.

As she slalomed between the distracted creatures, classroom doors whooshing past, she realized her stupid mistake. Subconsciously she had begun running towards the stairs leading to the roof instead of the exit out of this hell house. The panic this realization brought made her chest constrict painfully.
Shit.
But there was no time to stop. She had no choice but to continue forward, towards her death.
When she finally arrived at the stairs she saw that it was filled with a confusing mess of students and sick creatures. Or where the students also dead now? She did not take a closer look.

Although all she wanted was to run up yelling, she reminded herself what she had learned. Keep silent.
As she moved upstairs, past a boy who was busy kicking the Zombies in a very suicidal way, she felt a tickling sensation in the back of her throat.
Great, the absolute worst moment ever to have a coughing fit, and there was no way she had time to use her inhaler. Well, Fuck. Rule number one of surviving an apocalypse: don’t have asthma.
She had already failed.

Or not.

Suddenly the door was in sight.
She sprinted inside and ran little further, oblivious to the mass of people around her and slumped behind a chimney- or air-recycling-thing-whatever. Her head spinning as she gasped wheezingly for air, she shook the inhaler, removed the cap and brought it to her mouth. After a moment the familiar relief of getting a proper amount of air into her lungs spread inside her.

Then she glanced down to where her box lay undamaged beside her. At least that.

Spoiler
Sorry. I know the door is already closed, but my character wasn't ready to die.

THOMAS BROWN

As everyone looked around at each other, no one said a word. For the first time in what felt like forever, there was silence. My head was spinning as I tried to breathe. Where was my dad? Had he been bitten? Is this virus everywhere? It had to be. It couldn't only be in our school. So was it only in my state? Or all of America? Or even the whole world? How could this be?
The girl, the biologist, that had talked about the "zombies" and how they must work. Years and years I've read comic books about people who this happened to. All fiction.

Suddenly, Zombies were a little scarier than before. Who was I kidding? A lot scarier than before. Besides, the Zombies that I used to see were green, and walked a lot slower, and they seemed stupid. Besides, what nerdy kid survives the Apocalypse? None. That's the answer. Zero percent.

The girl who has more muscles than a Greek god statue survives the apocalypse, the runner survives the apocalypse, strong guys like Hunter and Aaron survive the apocalypse, a girl who knew everything about Zombies 5 seconds after meeting them survives the Apocalypse, or someone who can climb trees like a monkey survives, but, boys who have an A in algebra and a C- in Gym don't. They die and teach the ones who survives grief and that drags the story along. A character like me is the boring one. I don't want to be the boring me. Please don't let me be the boring one.

"What do we do know?", someone asked.
"I need to go home", someone shouted, panicking.
"No one goes home!", Mr. Jameson said, "We have to stick together"
"Stick together? I don't know any of you", someone replied aggressively.
"We need food and water", someone shouted.
What we needed was a reality check. Not food and water. I mean, we weren't part of the Walking Dead yet. Has anyone called the police? Or whoever you call in case of Zombie emergencies? Who do you call in case of a Zombie Apocalypse? The fireman? Police? The zombie Police! Now that's a TV show I would watch. Notice how I said watch, not be a part of.

The universe didn't understand the difference of when I asked my dad for the new Zombie Apocalypse video game, instead it heard I wanted to be a part of it. Not okay, Universe, seriously, not funny.
