So, in falconry, is the birds' compliance based off of oxytocin like a dog's bond with its owner, or mutual respect, or fear? I've always been really interested in what compels them to obey humans.
Also, could any falcon be raised and trained into falconry, or is it just specific species?
@regismare: it's based off food. They are trained using positive reinforcement so that they learn that the desired action = food reward. It doesn't bond, it doesn't care at all about their human (with the exception of an imprint or a Harris' Hawk), it simply thinks of them as a food source.
Any falcon, hawk, or owl can be used in falconry, with varying degrees of success.
