@Remembrance. How about the simple and obvious. Despite the friendliness of the crown toward mages, there would still be a witch hunt going for the mage that killed the king and queen. Maybe Asha is wrongfully (yet rightfully XD) targeted for mob justice.
Exactly! It's a witch hunt. People are LOOKING for a mage to string up. "Hey she looks shady and suspicious. Why is she hiding her face?" "She must be a mage! Get her!" mob mentality is fickle and hardly logical.
