What do you want to be when you grow up?

I would love to make my living as a writer/author, but I think I would enjoy being in the publishing industry in general. Maybe an editor or something like that.

Of course, I'm not planning on actually growing up. No not ever.

Returning to school in two weeks to pursue a career in middle-childhood education (that's grades 4-9), teaching language arts and sciences. Plus, of course, I want to be a published author.

(At this point in the response, my imagination zooms into overdrive and sees me as a very successful, wealthy, and famous author who appears on David Letterman--OH WAIT! It'll be Stephen Colbert by then, even better!--to talk about how thrilled she is to be seeing her beloved novel trying a turn on the big screen...)

When I was younger, I wanted to be a biologist and go to Africa to study animals. Slightly more specifically, I wanted to be a zoologist, but I thought that a biologist studied animals in the wild and a zoologist studied animals in the zoo (you can thank not learning the proper pronunciation of zoologist until college for that), so I thought I'd like being a biologist more than being a zoologist.

Otherwise, I think I've pretty much always wanted to be a teacher, to some extent. My dad taught college math for two decades, and I helped teach my sisters to read and do addition. (For whatever reason, my middle sister's first addition problem was 4+4=8, and for whatever other reason, I still remember that.)

I'd like to be a writer, but not JUST to write novels and such. I'd like to go to college for animation and what not. I'd like to maybe use my writing right along with my animations.~ And, this is gonna sound like a totally unrealistic dream, such as the World Dictator Overlord, but I'd really like to write a book that's good enough to hit the Cinemas. I know it probably won't happen, but hey, everything is worth a shot.

Jokes aside, I honestly don't know. I want to write more than anything else, but people tell me that's not practical, and that writing should be more of a 'hobby.' (Yeah, right.) I don't want to become a doctor, or a dentist, or anything related to science because frankly, while I love science, I just can't see myself in any of those positions. A teacher? If you want to torture me and the wee kids, sure.

But I suppose ... if I had to ... I could go for journalism? Or become a psychologist? Meh.

I'm still content with lampshading, though.

@BlueAfrica, how are you suppose to pronounce 'zoologist'? O.o

z-long o-ologist. As my professor explained it, for it to be pronouned "zoo" at the beginning, there would actually have to be three Os there at the beginning: "zoo-ologist." So it's actually ZO-ologist, long O for the first one. Except, linguistically speaking, zoo-ologist is or will become the "real" pronunciation because language it a product of the people who speak it, but that's a discussion for a different time.
