Dante Weylin
Return to The Harbinger Syndrome
Creator: Silvern
Roleplay: The Harbinger Syndrome
Nickname: Dante
Name: Dante Weylin
Age: 27
Pronouns: he/him
Sexual/Romantic Orientation: Questioning (he doesn't think he's questioning. I am questioning him. I have spent literal months trying to figure out if he's straight or bi and it's not even funny anymore.)
Personality: Dante is a confident sort of introvert, and he handles challenging situations without much worry, also providing stability for others. He is laidback, knowing how to go with the flow, and tends to make a lot of jokes when he's comfortable with people (humor is also a coping mechanism for when the stress does get high). Dante is also a creative soul and an artist.
Appearance: Dante is six feet tall with light brown skin, dark curly hair, and deep brown eyes. He's half-Filipino, half-white (although he only knows about the Filipino background) and could be described as "ethnically ambiguous", although a lot of people assume he's Latino based on his appearance and his ability to speak Spanish. He likes dressing mostly casually-- think sport jerseys, shorts and capris.
Ability: Blood
Ability Strengths: Dante is quite good at using his power to sense other living beings around him. It can get a little debilitating in crowded spaces where he could be picking up on dozens to hundreds of pounding hearts and rushing blood, but in emptier locations, it's an excellent way of determining whether he's alone (and safe) or not.
Ability Weaknesses: Manipulating blood, although he hasn't really tried it much, is pretty difficult for him. He often does more than he means to with it, and it tends to get out of control. Even when trying to use it for a helpful purpose (for example, stopping blood flow), he can sometimes make it worse before fixing it.
History: Dante was born in New Orleans. His mom left him and his dad-- the two of them were not married-- when he was two, and that's the last he's heard from her. It honestly doesn't bother him that she's not in his life, though, and neither does the fact that his dad's pretty absent and emotionally available. He's found his comfort and company in friends rather than family. Their move to Atlanta happened rather forcefully, when a certain hurricane struck and devastated the city of New Orleans in Dante's childhood. The two of them were one of the many to leave the city and never go back.
Dante has come to like Atlanta quite a bit, though. It's landlocked, which isn't his favorite since he loves the coast, but he's adjusted. He's gotten new friends, a ride-or-die friend group called the Willows, and they got in some trouble together during their teenage years. None of them ever went to college, but they stayed close through their twenties. Dante now works as a bartender, rents an apartment with two of his friends, and doesn't talk to his dad much anymore-- all to say, it's simple living, but he likes it.
Where were you during Quarantine?: Dante was having an NFL watch party with his roommates and best friends, Yazmin and Alejandro. They were arguing over teams (with Dante maintaining that the Saints were the best one out there) when there was a fierce knocking on the door. Yazmin was the one to get it, and that's when officers burst in to forcefully test them all, then ignored the other two and started to haul Dante away. Dante resisted arrest, hollering that he had constitutional protections and no one had read him his Miranda rights yet, and the officers knocked him out. That's the last thing he remembers before being brought to the Inner City.
What is your stance towards FEDRA?: Dante dislikes power structures in general, and he definitely hates authoritarianism. He's got a bone to pick with FEDRA.
Other: Dante, overall, doesn't like his powers. He recognizes it's useful for certain things, but it... unsettles him. He doesn't want to hurt anyone with it, and he's secretly terrified that he might lose control of it and do terrible damage with it. If there was a cure avaliable, he'd take it in a heartbeat.
