Meryl Bennet

Return to The Haunting of Faversham House

Creator: PrincessInk
Roleplay: The Haunting of Faversham House
Nickname: Meryl

Name: Meryl Bennet

Age:18

Gender:Female

Appearance: Wavy auburn hair, light blue eyes, and freckles. Meryl likes to wear vintage clothes: dresses, sweaters, skirts, trousers. Nothing too flamboyant or attention-catching. She looks like a pretty unremarkable girl – unless you catch her seemingly engaging in a conversation alone (which is rare).

Personality: Meryl is good at listening and keeping secrets, basically. Something about her manner draws people to open up to her. During the summers when she worked at the counter of a bakery, she was often privy to customers confiding in her. And in times of crisis, she also has the ability to unite people around a common goal.

Meryl herself is not talkative, but neither is she shy. If you don't know her well, she'll be friendly enough but just expect some stiff pauses. No personal offense, she's just awkward at small talk. She also gets irritated by backhanded compliments or obvious flattery so she tends to put on her coldest, most unfriendly demeanor in such moments.

Under her seemingly unruffled serenity, though, lies her passionate emotions. She can love as fiercely as she can hate and be vengeful. She can be ecstatic as she can be crushed. Basically, if you get on her good side, she'll grow to care for you deeply. If you land on her bad side – well, be warned, for Meryl can be full of vengeance and spite as a wronged ghost.

Abilities: Meryl is a psychic medium in training. Though she can't really see ghosts unless they choose to materialize, they can hear her interact by two means: she speaks to them aloud and they respond to her mind, or she interacts with her surroundings to create a message and they respond in kind. She has attempted communicating telepathically to ghosts with no success. But who knows? A girl can dream.

History: As far back as her earliest memories, Meryl has been aware of the something in the air – spirits, ghosts, perhaps. When she was four her elderly neighbor died and he was the first ghost she ever spoke too. At that time, she also realized that her ability was far from usual – in fact even weird to some. At school, she would be either teased or ostracized for seeming to talk to nobody in particular when she was carrying on a conversation with ghosts.

However, her high school counselor Keiko Fujiwara, who has limited powers of clairvoyance, guessed of her skills and told her about others with a variety of psychic abilities too and introduced her to Moran University where she could develop her skills. So upon graduating high school a year early, she wound up in Australia and met Professor Magnus Sinclair.

Now that he's invited her to this mission due to her psychic medium ability, she considers it a wonderful educational opportunity. However her instinct nags that the trip to this mansion may be something more...

Other: Meryl loves photography and has an Instagram where she posts her shoots (her handle is earthlymeryl). She also dates Jonas Wu, a telepath-in-training and fellow student at Moran University.
