Wren Carter

Return to Superpowered

Creator: Mageheart
Roleplay: Superpowered
Nickname: Wren

Secret Identity: Wren Carter

Fake Secret Identity: Adrian Black

Superhero Name: The Actor

Superpower: She can shapeshift. Not only can she change her physical form and voice, but she can also change her clothing to match the person she intends to look like - it just takes a little extra effort. The one thing she can't do is copy someone's ability. The only time that she would be able to is if their superpower was physical. For example, she would be able to be invisible if she was copying someone who was invisible.

Gender: female, she/her

Age: 17

Appearance: As her actual self, Wren looks like the girl pictured above. She's on the short side, with her dark brown hair almost always up in a bun and her dark brown eyes almost always peering out from behind a pair of glasses. Her clothes are never too noticeable - they tend to be hoodies, t-shirts, jeans and sneakers, and all in different shades of gray.

As Adrian Black, the persona she adopts to be the "secret identity" of her superhero counterpart, The Actor, she'll appear to be a tall, lanky man in his early twenties. This man will be wearing all black clothing: a black t-shirt, dark jeans, black leather jacket and black leather boots. The man's hair is also black, and goes down to his shoulders, with his bangs covering one of his dark brown eyes. She's also almost always wearing sunglasses when appearing as Adrian Black.

As The Actor, she'll have the same basic characteristics as Adrian Black - the only difference will be the outfit. The main part of her superhero ensemble is black. The only exceptions to this is the dark red cape and half-mask covering her face. The combination of this outfit and the features she adopts for it tend to make her look quite intimating and possibly even villainous - something that was a complete accident on her part.

Personality: No matter what persona she's adopting, her core personality shines through: she's socially awkward, cares deeply about others and loves doing as much as she can to help the people she meets. She also tends to get easily overwhelmed with everything she does as The Actor, though this is mainly because she's an honors student at her high school and already has a lot on her plate as it is.

When being Adrian Black or The Actor, she tries to adopt a more confident persona. This tends to work to some extent, but she's ultimately just as shy and socially uncomfortable as she is when she's herself, so she tends to stay silent more often than not when she's unsure of what to say or do. This results in both Adrian Black and The Actor coming off as quite intimidating.

Up for Romance: Sure thing! She's panromantic. I'd just like for the romance to start after her real true identity is revealed, since things would be awkward if that happened before then.

Backstory: It could be said that Wren's childhood was perfect for preparing her for her to become The Actor, but that was by a total coincidence. Wren was born to two loving parents that she still currently lives with, and those parents spoiled her to no end. The moment she showed interest in acting, her parents began to enroll in every class or activity they could find. And when, a few years later, she started taking interest in self-defense, they enrolled her in every class they could find for that, too.

By the time that Wren Carter entered middle school, she had become quite skilled at both acting and fighting. And it was around that time that Wren started to notice strange things about herself - how her hair and eye color would change every so often when she was at home, and how she even heard her voice change when practicing some of her lines. In seventh grade, while practicing the lines for an audition that was the next day, Wren tried to do what she had always done when preparing for a role: she imagined herself becoming the character.

And, shockingly enough, she did.

That night when her parents returned home from work, she promptly showed them her newfound ability - and both promptly fainted. But, after that, they came to accept their daughter's strange new talent, and let her experiment while she was in the safety of their house. By the time that Wren came to high school, she had become quite comfortable with taking on the appearances of other people.

There wasn't a traumatic event that prompted her decision to become a hero. She was sitting in her homeroom one day when the teacher was giving a school-mandated lesson on civic responsibility when she realized that she could help people, and that she was just like a superhero in the comics.

Needless to say, the comic book store around the corner from her house quickly became acquainted with her. She spent hours reading through different comics, trying to figure out what her superhero suit should look like, and what to avoid. That was how she came up with the idea for Adrian Black - give her superhero self a secret identity that was far different than her actual identity, and no one would ever put two-and-two together.

Her parents were obviously hesitant, but their daughter was a capable girl and she quickly won them over with her reasoning. In November of her freshman year of high school, The Actor suddenly burst into the scene - with more heroes soon to follow. It's now the fall of her senior year of high school, and her hero work - and school work - is still going strong.

Other: Wicked is her favorite musical, and has been known to reference it quite frequently as Wren, Adrian and The Actor. Also, other superheroes who don't know her well tend to guess that she's a villain when they first meet, due to her appearance and personality.
