Daryon Pippalook of Selesnya

Return to The Maze of the Guilds

Creator: Persistence
Roleplay: The Maze of the Guilds
Nickname: Pip, Darry, Bird-person

Chosen Guild- Selesnya Conclave

Full name- Daryon Pippalook of Selesnya

Race- Helioproct, humanoid Avian

Age- 19

Gender- Male

Appearance- Young Daryon is 190 cm tall (6 2). He is thin, and not muscular. His grey wings look big even when retracted, but when unfolded, each of them is about 3 m long. He has short black hair, brown eyes, and there's a small gap between his two front teeth, but it does not affect his speech. One of his wings is visibly lower than the other, and sometimes he has an awkward walk.

For the Maze he chose to wear a grey shirt that matches his feathered wings, along with brown trousers and black boots. In a small bag he carries over his shoulder he has three "Energy Compound" bars, which are high-calorie ingots that easily saturate one's hunger with a single bite. Each of them has enough for five large bites. He also carries a flask of water, and some medical supplies like bandages and sanitizing agents.

Backstory- Daryon was born and raised in the floating Vitu Ghazi, and taught the values and virtues of helping others and putting them before himself.

All members of Selesnya must undergo an initiation that would signify their allegiance to the Conclave. The wingless take the walk of faith - they fall from the highest point in hopes that they are picked up by a flier, all to show their willingness to die for the collective, as well as their unwavering faith that the Conclave will always be there for them no matter what. There has never been an initiation where at least one person hasn't died.

The less-numerous winged initiates are tasked with aiding the giant birds of Vitu Ghazi in picking up the wingless from the air and bringing them to safety. This is to show sacrifice and willingness to work towards the preservation of all life, no matter whose it is, no matter the cost.

Daryon was one of these initiates. Seventy-two people jumped at the same time, and he dove to complete his end of the ritual. Once paired with the person they chose to save, they had to go through with it. He went for a falling Centaur. He wrapped his arms around him and strained his wings to slow down the fall, but the Centaur was too afraid from the height and started to savagely push him away in panic. Daryon was meant to even end his own life, if it would mean that he would save the frightened creature. But he didn't do it, for the first time of his life, he did not follow the rules. He let go of the Centaur just as they were dangerously close to the ground. The wingless splashed against the ground, the winged spread wide his wings.

But it was not enough - he was too low, so much that he could smell the forest below. One of his wings struck a treetop and broke, the other he wrapped around himself as he fell through the branches. He woke up in the dirt mere moments before the rescue party came. Not too far from him was another Helioproct, her wings wrapped around a human. She was dead, but the human wasn't. Daryon wrested the unconscious man from her arms and took him as his own. The female was matched with the dead Centaur, and he became a new hero of Selesnya. He broke the rules once, when he refused to die with his failure, he would never do so again. And so he gladly accepted the offer to enter the Maze.

Personality- He wants to atone for his cowardice by healing people and saving lives. He always follows the rules, sometimes even obsessively, and has true faith in the Chorus and the Conclave. He would never kill, steal, or cheat.

Skills- Great at finding food and herbs in the wild, as well as telling what is poisonous and what is good.

Great at healing wounds and treating people.

High metabolism allows for very swift hands and reflexes, as well as increased strength.

Unable to fly, his wing never recovered.

The feathers on the wings can harden, an action done consciously and willingly, transforming the wings into a shield that can hold back even arrows. (They don't bounce off, but they don't go through, either. They just get stuck in the wing itself.) Yes, it is very painful, but it's better than getting killed.

Spell list-

Transfer Life - heals target, making the caster weaker in the process. Sick or poisoned targets are not healed, their lives are only slightly prolonged. This is because this spell only restores damaged flesh, and does not eradicate diseases of toxins, which remain in the body even after it is cast. Thus, only the wounded can be fully restored.

Ultimate Sacrifice - sacrifices the life of the caster for the full recovery of a target. Cures disease, wound and poison. Diseases and toxins are transferred to the caster in case of sickness and poisoning, and in cases of injury, the caster's bodily substance is used to restore any and all wounds. Cannot raise from the dead.

Moves list- Dodge (blow or arrow). Enhanced metabolism allows for fast movements. Daryon always blocks or dodges, never on the offensive.

Harden wings - morphs the wings into hard surfaces in whichever position they were left in. Great for shielding. Uses a lot of energy.

Strengths, Weaknesses & Fears:

Strengths -Fast, quick thinker, exceptional healer (but not a miracle worker) and ambidextrous.

Weakness - High metabolism consumes a lot of energy, making him almost always hungry.

Fears - heights, falling, breaking the rules, being punished for breaking the rules, disappointing his Guild.
