  • #SettingSnippet #VillainVibes
Hello. Meliora coming to you live from Y.W.S when I should be heroing. Naturally, Trix jumped abroad this train [something about being unable to resist discussing her villain characters], and thought it was a good idea to make me, a cat [well, cat adjacent] type up her rambles. Please pray for her, I fear that she's not of sound mind.

Anyway *sigh* hold on to your hats because we're dumpster diving now.

    Setting Snippets

Her primary torture chamber [don't give me that look Trix, you know you torture your characters, me especially. Your doing it right now, in fact, making me listen to and transcript you talking about your horrid writing] in Immortal, for approximately 1.4 seconds, is called Sitārās then events occur in a spiritual realm called Gidan. Then the agony goes back and forth between them. Rather inconvenient if you ask me, but unfortunately I'm not the writer. Btw, realms? Cliche Trix. Get better-okay, okay, okay not helping. Got it.

A snippet of Gidan is unavailable but here's a glimpse into Sitārās:

She didn't speak, my words seeming to make her contemplative. A soft very faint whisper could be heard as our pawpads touched the sand.

Above us night stretched its length across the sky a crescendo, symphony of lonely blackness, apart from the stars which dressed the sky like little fire-flies, a comforting slow piano melody in contrast to the nights deep notes of isolation.

We fell into a comfortable rhythems as we walked side-bye side, an almost peaceful existence with neither one of us asking anything of each other, wanting anything from each other. Just one in the wisdom the night sky had to teach us.

Because two realms aren't enough, apparently, you'll often hear references to a realm called 'the fields' [essentially the after life]. There is one final unnamed realm that isn't explored. Excerpts of the first are unavailable, but here's the only surviving mention of the second [you may be familiar with this one]:

Long ago, there was an old ziphonofelid, who attained ultimate insight they say, and became known for being one of the wisest in the world. From this wisdom a new world was born, why no one can say, but the sage became so obsessed with this world, she lost sight of anything else. And eventually one by one everyone left her in that endless world until she, a long with it, decayed into nothing.

Aaand that concludes your grand tour of her torture chambers. Prepare yourselves, because things are going to get worse.

    The Villain Vibes

[No Trix, you may not dominate this snippet. They want to hear about your horribly constructed English from me, not you] Trix adores writing villains and has amassed quite an extensive catalog of them.  The ones featuring in Immortal are insecure thing 1 and insecure thing 2 errr sorry, Sitara and Divasa.

Sitara is an immortal, all powerful being, hailing from the land of Gidan. As far as the villain spectrum goes, she falls into the 'mysterious ruler' category. While not in command of Giden, saying she's the real mastermind pulling the strings is a safe assertion. As the story progresses it becomes increasingly evident that she's more emotionally motivated then she first appears.

Here's one of the first interactions between her and the protagonist

Then a voice spoke, seeming to come from inside me, but at the same time echoing from everywhere.

You are safe. We have no need for stardust, nor your sanquinem.

A instant sense of calm wrapped tightly around me a trickle of warmth slowly came over me like sunlight.

We have witnessed your suffering, and seen you waste the sanguinem that we have bestowed upon you.

What could you possibily do that could save me?''

What if we offered you invincibility and immortality?

I'd say only a fool would accept power...I'd also say it's everything I've wanted, continue.

You'd have a say in who you are. You could view your body as a symbol of divinity, and incorruptability. One that would go on forever. No one could taint your name, what you believe. And their believes would be nothing but dust, because while they die you'd live on. You were given a promise, were you not Amrita? Your father told you that your body above all else is sacred, the light of who you are. But he never showed you that did he? But with immortality and invincibility, you'd have no need for promises. You could trust once more.

I want that, I want that so badly.
Then let me make you immortal

Ugh, sorry folks, before this is over she wants to talk about Divasa, her favorite. Divasa swings more to the good side of the moral compass, but she does royally screw things up for poor Amria so technically, she counts.

Divasa is a ziphonofelid* turned...the angel of death. I would love to ruin the whole story and spare you the agony of having to read it, but Trix says that revealing the specifics of how that occured would be spoilery. Just know that her relationship with Divasa is complicated.

There's an entire chapter written in her perspective, and Trix wants me to show you the snippets that, and I quote 'highlight the most important aspects of her character'. She just wants to show off if you...okay okay okay, Trix. I'll lay off.

    1.

The shape Amrita is, surprised me. When Sitara told me about a new immortal, and demanded that I teach her I had not been expecting the scrawny, thin, creature in front of me. All kinds of scratches, and bite marks laced her spine and neck.

I glimmer of empathy burst within me.

Oh the poor dear, the poor sweet precious dear. What have you gone through?

I desperately wished I could've taken her to the fields and given her soul some piece. I sensed somehow however that this was not her fate. Her soul would face more tribulations before its time was up.

Over my eons of work I kinda had a knack for telling the destiny of souls, and rather or not it was their time to reach the eternal peace.

I instantly could tell that this particular soul did not really want immortality but peace. It would've been kind of Sitara to allow me to do my job.

But for some reason she wanted this soul to glimpse eternity, a little bit of everlasting decay. The only thing I could do was protect her and make her life a little better.

Amrita's body seemed to tense, and slowly a saw a change overcome her body as it went from restful to alert, the hairs on her body bristling.

She glanced at me with an expression of horror, then confusion. The reaction I had become accustomed to getting.

    2.

    My thoughts wandered.

She was clearly new to immortality, thinking it a happy exciting thing. I had been in her position once, and I of course deeply sympathized with her. It was an exciting prospect. Having the knowledge of a thousand years, or at least, knowing that you could attain such knowledge, finally escaping from some aspect of mortal confines.

And knowing about the field, was always such a comfort to me. Besides it gave you a certain power that mortality never give you, gave you a more complete insight into your existence, particular freedoms.

But with that knowledge comes isolation.

The mortal world became dull. You recognized the futility of things you once cared about as a mortal. You no longer cared about justice, right or wrong, good and evil. Because you start to see how futile holding on to anything, how futile giving anything meaning is. You stop caring about their conflicts. A veil is lifted and you start to realize the trick to existing. I think you do accumulate knowledge, and become a more balanced being.

    But there is an isolation.

Few start to match the depth of the things you've seen, and experienced, what secrets you've tasted and touched. With an aching heart you see that they've built traps for themselves. You have all of this beautiful knowledge to give, but you realize that no one cares.

They don't want knowledge. They don't want the bread you offer. They want their way of life to be right. They want comfort. To be seen. They want their existence to matter, but they don't realize, existence isn't the thing that makes them matter. Their cute little beliefs, and lies aren't important or special.

That's a special kind of pain.

    3.

The only mortals I've seen understand it are those who don't fear me when I come for them.  And Amrita is very much one full of fear. She's curious about me I think, but her first instinct was one of distrust. The number one rule of immortality is that you learn to trust the unknown. She doesn't see that now. What I sense is that she's drunk on the relief from pain.

I watched the black xiphonofelid race against the sand head lifted, as she enjoyed the rush. A perfect picture of carelessness and joy.

Thick emotions swelled in my chest and a hot tear streamed down my face.

I wondered why Sitara had decided to do what she did. She had more experience in this immortality business and had better judgement of mortals then I did but still...

Again, I silently vowed to protect her.

And don't worry folks, if you think that's garbage she wants me to show you a few paragraphs of her notes

    Nisha x Sitara

How do those things effect how they interact with each other?

There is an unspoken acknowledgement that Nisha is a judger, where as Sitara is only pretending, and Sitara knows that she is the one, and someday she will be judged. Nisha also despises Sitara because they seem to be a mysterious unstoppable force, while everyone ignores them which eats her lunch.

    What is their dymanic?

    These interactions help them grow

    a. these contrasting traits help Nisha grow because it helps her realize that she's not as in control as she thinks which stems her on the path to being the force of justice

b.helps her because this helps her come to terms with flaws and learn that the only way to learn lessons and grow is to give up control and pride

This interaction changes Sitara, but not in a positive light

-again as with Sitara it helps her realize that she's not in control and forces her to confront her facade

-but unlike Nisha she tries to control it more, gain more power.

    Divasa x Sitara

    Points of conflict

-Divasa can only do her job when Sitara wills it, and in her mind has a negative association with Sitara because she inherintely dislikes her job as an angel of death, and holds Sitara responsibile for forcing her into the role

-They are similar in that Sitara presents herself as a force of justice, and Divasa posits herself as a protector. Suggesting their desire for control stems from a similar place

Generally Divasa and Sitara have a more...interesting relationship. Divasa's role as the angel of death is not tied to Sitara. Her role is one that numerous predecessors have fulfilled. But Divasa see's Sitara as an authority figure, and Sitara has taken adventage of that. Part of Divasa's deluding herself into thinking she's a protector is her way of protecting herself from the fact that Sitara...is using her powers without consideration for her.

Aaand in addition she has the first draft of a poem from Divsa's perspective [yeah, like I said, she's Trix's favorite, and the poem is complete with bor-ahhh...average notes? Please don't kill me Trix, I'm trying to control ittt-

Anywho enjoy a peek at those

    Mortem Serena no. 6

My finality is of the softest down feather

    The quiet whisper of tides

    The sound after the storm

As a rainbow reaches to eternity

    My promise is always kept

    Meadows lush with morning dew

Clouded magenta and whispered robins egg blue

    I will give to you

    My call is not proud

    But gentle birds trill

The hushed hymn of tulips blooming

I welcome all to my table

    The proude, the humble

    The bold, the mee

    The young the old

    The king and the peasant

My hand bears not a scythe, but a shield of protection

For the mortal world is not one meant to be traversed

And you were never meant to know the secrets of gods

Over your soul I must lay claim,

I will arrive in a chariot of storm

    The skies bleeding grey

    Without a sound I will

    Softly take your breath

‘’My finality is of the softest down feather

    The quiet whisper of tides

    The sound after the storm

As a rainbow reaches to eternity

    My promise is always kept

    Meadows lush with morning dew

Clouded magenta and whispered robins egg blue’

In this first paragraph we see how Divasa sees herself. The usage of the words ‘finality’ and ‘promise’ are the first contrast/contradictory aspects that appear.

Both suggest that speaker sees herself in some form of power, but each one suggests a different version. Finality is a darker verbage, suggesting something that is sealed for certain. It is not positive, although depending on the context, could have a more positive meaning.

Promise on the other hand, suggests more of something given.

Which suggests the duality of her nature. She takes away with a certainty that cannot be reversed but gives riches. Divasa leans into the latter but not the former.

Aaand that concludes this crap-show, thank you for bearing with me and Astrix. Now, if you'll pardon me, I have duties to attend.
