A few experiments

So I tried to get back to drawing with pencil and paper lately, just because my brain's been bogged down by a computer screen O_O I tried to recreate characters from the Vampire Knight manga, which I really admire for it's amazing art. These are the twins, Ichiru (left) and Zero (right).

And then I decided to go insane and color it in my abnormal way. (I really don't know what I was thinking with their outfits, I'm kicking myself now)

Image

So there's that. Also I've been experimenting with lighting effects on GIMP. I'm happy with how her hair turned out, but the rest is just alright to me.

Image

I've also been trying a cartoony style, which was actually kind of fun ^_^

And a doodle I did last night that I titled 'Wuzzat?'

Comments are extremely helpful, be sure to let me know which ones you like/don't like! I'd rather you give me a ten word response than a 'like'!

Hiya Sheepy! :3

So, I follow you, and I enjoy seeing the different phases and improvement in each new art post. I've always thought you've done a lovely job with bringing life to your character's hair and eyes, and this series of drawings is no exception. I'm glad to see how much you draw regularly and how you're ready and willing to be critiqued for your work. As a fellow artist in progress, I applaud you for your persistence. :)

Now, I guess since I'm going to attempt to be helpful, I'll just go drawing-by-drawing:

1) It's nice to see some traditional work from you after so much digital (and I can only imagine the reprieve it must be for your eyes). Your lines are very clean and consultant which is good, and it adds a professionalism to it. Although the anime style lends to some weird-ass anatomical reinterpretations, there are a few things with their faces that seem off. First was Zero's--I think...the right one!--ear. It seems a little high up on his head, and while the same appears true for the boy on the left, his head appears tilted down enough that the location is believable. I know when I draw ears (which I'm sure you can agree sucks), I try to position them to where the top of the ear just passes the corner of the eye. But yeah, I won't preach about anatomy to you since I know I struggle like mad with it, but that was really my only nitpick on the first drawing.

2) Since the second is based off the first, I'll just talk coloring. I like all the layers of color you used for the hair, and while the colors overall are pretty wild, I say "RIGHT ON." Nothing wrong with going a little crazy every once and a while. You also did a nice job with the flesh tones, and of course the eyes.

3) I agree that the girl's hair is nice, all full and flowy. Besides that, I find the lighting bursts to be a bit distracting and unfitting for the overall style of the drawing. The lines outside her hair are very rough and sketchy, a little too bold to compliment her hair and the fantasy lighting. While you did well with the angle of her head, neck, and shoulders, from there down I was confused as to how her body was twisted. The lower half of her appears to be facing away while the upper it turned toward the viewer. A pose like that is possible, granted, by turning by the waist, but since there are no folds or anything to suggest that twisting, she seems a little...off.

4) For this one, I like the girl's dress and the color of her hair. The back ground with the stripes is a tad distracting, but whatever. This is still pretty cute.

5) I like the girl's curious expression in the last picture and the contrast between the shadows of her skin and the bright yellow of her hair. That being said, it was probably my least favorite just because it doesn't fully show off your coloring skillz with the sketchiness of it all. Besides that, good work for tackling a full-body seated position.

Well, I hope this was sort of maybe kind of helpful. I've wanted to review something of yours before...but many people had beaten me to the punch. ;) Anyways, if you have questions or didn't find this too rambling and unhelpful and you'd like another review, just drop my a line on my wall or in a PM!
Much loves,

You're a really nice colorer! :D

Anyway, I really like the fourth one! It's very cute and simple and I love the vibrancy of the colors. Nice work there!

For the fifth one, the girl's expression is priceless, however it seems like her body is out of proportion. For instance, her collarbone seems a bit wonky and her breasts seem to be different sizes.

...and I can't really comment on anything else. Those were the comments that popped up for me.

Nice work! :D

I love the way you colored the boys' hair and eyes.
There, that was eleven words! Sorry, I don't have much time now, but I might come back later!

P.S. I also love that one girl's hair (the lighting experiment). I agree - it's awesome.

Hi there! I love the colors that you used! I heard using GIMP is hard. You made it look so easy! I love the twins, I just love them. Anime twins are just ah-dorable! Amazing job and keep it up! I don't use GIMP, and I don't think there are any flaws in these pictures. Although, you could have added a background for the twins. Overall I love it!

1 and 2: I don't really have complaints on these. They're really good, though I can't say how they look compared to the original. My only comment would be the one on the right's ear; it's outlined pretty thick, especially compared to the other one whose ear is very lightly shaded (almost a little too light, not not exactly).

3: I'm really confused as to her body position. Her torso makes it look as though she's facing slightly toward us and to our left, yet her legs show her facing backwards (it almost looks like they're switched exactly around). And her arms aren't really helping; they're not detracting, but it looks like you're trying to use them to show her body turning different ways, but that doesn't come across, especially since her legs are turned too far to look natural with her body.

4. This one's pretty good except for that her hair's a little wonky. It's not really full enough for this style of draw, and part of it's really awkwardly styled. Most of the problem is in the empty space in front of her forehead; I feel that part should be mostly filled in with hair. Though, if you had done that, her hair would have looked too large for her. But it does anyway; that and the part that needs to be filled in, those are the problems this has. Other than that, this is really good. I especially love the face.

5. This one's good except for two things. The first being that her chest is facing us a little too squarely; I want to see it more of at an angle. The second is her hair. For most of this, the color stays inside the lines, and I get that you wanted the hair to be different, but especially on the left side, the yellow is taking over and not in an appealing way. It's covering up the black, which is defining how everything on this looks, which makes it look tangled and blahed out.

Okay, so other than those things, these are really good pieces. I'd say a lot better than I could do, but in all honesty that's probably more of an insult to you, just to be compared to me.

Hello xxTheBlackSheepxx !!!

I must say, this is amazing! You're drawing is wonderful! I loved it!
You should draw more stuff and You have AMAZING TALENT!!!! <3 <3 <3

First Picture (Sketch)- I love the way you worked with the eyes! It's beautiful and the sketch is lovely! I find no mistakes there! ^^ But I think the shoulder is a little sharp and the curve and you should have fixed it! Darn it! I really loved it! But Zero's right ear looks like it has 2 wholes. :P Hehe xD Try to change it, please? :)

Second Picture(Colored)Hey, I don't think they don't have any problem with they're clothing but they have small messiness here and there. For Ichiru, the outfit went like zig-zag-zoo :P The green and pink went messy and it looks like colorful navy outfit xPP Haha :P But the hair looks so...dumb! Purple hair and pink hairlights. Not the idea of drawing anime :/ It should have been dark navy blue or something. Looks neat. For Zero, I thought it should have been fully black instead of small brown shadings there. And his chin looks so damn sharp >.< God, it disturbs me so much! :S But I love Zero's hair! ^^ Very natural.

Third Picture (The girl) The first thing which I noticed is the green bangs which looks very stylish! Whereas the color that joins the green, it should have been black instead of light brown. It would be awesome and so stylish. And the hand, it looks like it's been sunk into the skirt. Like its been melted. Looks very funny. The clothes and effects are great! Good work! ^.^

Forth Picture (Cartoon)- I love the way you designed her! She is just so beautiful! xD It looks so decent and peaceful I should say. :') The colors you've spread is BRILLIANT! It is my favorite! It's the best I love!!! <3

Fifth Picture (Doodle)The doodle is so funny and curious! The colors used are great! How you create doodles! It's so magical! ;P But... Erm... Ahem... Excuse me... I think the...Ahem...Breast is jumping out wierdly >.< But I love the rabbit shoes but I think you must have given it crayon white, yes? and top some shading... And the hearts look wonderful as ever! :D Keep it up!

You have amazing talent! Love it!
Keep Drawing!
Would give this a 9/10!

Regards,
Cookie or LM

Okay, so all very cool as per usual. They're all sort of sketch-y (as in, like a sketch) but I like them. Sure, more detail or more finesse might be good, but I liked them, they were fun. I especially liked the uncolored twins.

However, the colored twins? Psychedelic. Too psychedelic for my poor eyes. x.x
