First off, welcome to the site! There are tons of awesome, friendly people here, so if you ever have any questions, there are a ton of people who would just love to help you out, me included. I know joining a site like this can be confusing at first - when I joined, I was really lost - but you should get the hang of it fairly quickly.
As for getting around the site, if you want to see works others have posted, look under "Discover Works" - fairly simple. Go to "Submit" if you want to post something of your own. Under "Community" is a lot of cool places, such as "Information Desk" where you can find updates on the site. There are more forums, but I'll let you discover those on your own, okay?

Hi ilyah! Ultraviolet gave you a few tips and she is right. Don't be afraid to ask! Plus, some of getting around the site just takes time.
A tip I have is follow people. The more you follow people the more they will follow you. The more people you are familiar with the more you will hear about things going on around the site. Another great place for that is in the Lounge. The lounge is under 'Community Forums'.
But I am wondering about you! What do you like to write and read? How did you find out about YWS? Do you have anything posted on here?
Thanks for the advice! Calligraphy, you asked about me, so here goes! I don't have anything posted on here right now, but hopefully soon I will. I seem to be reading a lot of mysteries lately, but I also love fantasy/action novels. I mostly write slice-of-life things as I've never really come up with something fantasy, but I'd love to write some of that eventually!
I found out about YWS purely by chance, in fact I'm pretty sure I googled something to do with writing and came across it, bookmarked it and forgot it until now! It sure seems like a fun site, hopefully I'll get my head around it soon!
I love mysteries! You should write some of those... I would love to read it for you!
Right now, you've joined at a pretty exciting time! You can't actually post any works because it's a special day... the review day! That way, for one day we can concentrate completely on reviewing the pieces on YWS. It's pretty fantastic! You can usually put your works up though.
Slice of life sounds fantastic! Is there any particular slice of life you like to write about?

Welcome to the site, Ilyah! It's great to have you as an addition, and I think you'll find that once you start exploring YWS a little more, it'll grow to be not such a scary big place at all. Trust me on that. ^-^ I was so in your place a few months back. The other members here are tons friendly, if you haven't already realized this. Hopefully you'll have fun meeting some people and getting to know the site better.

Like snoink said, you joined at a really exciting time, IT'S REVIEW DAY! this time around we have review teams, and you can join one by going to the front page, and clicking on 'New! Join a review team' (or something like that xD) it'll randomly put you into a team, and then you can get reviewing! (it's not compulsory or anything like that )

Wow, thanks everyone! In answer to questions, I prefer prose but have attempted poetry in the past, mostly emotional poetry! When I write slice of life, it's usually something to do with teenagers and love or problems, or things like that.
Boy, review day was crazy! I'm glad I came on a day like that though!
