For most of us, it's summer right now which of course means going to the beach, camp, abroad, the mountains, etc! So what have you done this summer, or what do you plan on doing?
It was a pretty relaxing summer for me! Probably the most exciting thing we did was go to Springfield, Illinois and visit the Abraham Lincoln historical spots/tomb. That was amazing. It sounds boring but, man, does it hit you when you're there.
Aaaand soon, we'll be going to a concert for one of my favorite pianists! I'm ridiculously excited for that as well. =D
Buuut, besides that, I have to get ready for school. *hangs head* Cheers to an awesome summer!

I didn't do much this summer. The most exiting part was going camping with friends from my dorm. We slept in tents and cooked over a fire, then later that day we went on a float trip down the Meramec river. It was possibly the most fun I've had in a body of water. I was front captain of our canoe, my friend Zach was in the back, and my future room-mate Becky in the middle. We were really crazy and almost tipped over 3 times.
The whole group stopped on a story of beach in-let area. There was a spring running down the hill, so we all followed it up and found this huge cave opening. The most impressive thing was just how cold the water felt in the stream, then going into the cave it was icey. Felt GREAT in comparison to how hot it was! We also climbed some rocks up high... but I was a total chicken and didn't get too high up.
Other exciting things... my hair is growing back! :3

This is the first summer in my life we haven't gone on a big summer holiday, but that's because we moved house in May and with my parents starting new jobs they thought it would be poor show to disappear on holiday in the summer right after beginning.
Needless to say, this isn't stopping them going to France for two weeks at the end of September when I'm in school >.>
But I did go to Vienna with my mum, which was really cool, the buildings were all so pretty and we went to the oldest zoo in the world. Which, as well as having some cool animals (including giant pandas which I've never seen before), they had big display boards charting the history of various animals, the first giraffe getting there in the 1820s, the rhino in the 1850s, and then the animals in big events of history- like a picture of a giraffe with a group of Russian soldiers in 1945. I love the little funny bits of history like that.
Other than that, next week the arts festival here starts, which isn't really that exciting- last year they had some pretty big names (vis. Seamus Heaney) but not this year. Still, I'll be volunteering at it, and then after those two weeks I'll be helping out with the children's bible club. And then getting ready for school. It was funny, yesterday I met a teacher (I know, strange, AND I've talked to another one on the phone 0_o) at a memorial service and he said, "So, summer's nearly over!"
"Nah, sir, still got a whole month."
"Three weeks, you'll spend the last one getting ready for school."
Though actually, I kinda like doing that. You know, piling all my books up, finding clean linen, taking up my second school skirt a few inches, buying new school socks and having a movie marathon while I sew name tags on them. And this year I have the added enjoyment of getting together decorations for my new two-man dorm. There's some excitement involved in all that getting ready. It's all the anticipation of getting back and starting a really good academic year... with none of the disillusionment.
Jabber- I love doing historical stuff, not that I know a whole lot about Abraham Lincoln, but it seems cool ^^. Is that the Springfield where the Simpsons live?
And Suz, what's funny here is that the Irish Sea (and I guess the Atlantic too) are in general about 12 degrees. Maybe swing a few degrees either way. Which makes the water really cold in summer, but pretty warm in winter, which means that there are some people who swim every single day of the year. Not me, though And hair is always good

Besides bumming at home, I went to Florida for a week. The best part about that was I went with twelve of my friends and two of their moms. We stayed at a condo and went to Disney for four days. We played jokes on people at the pool. (We asked them where the bubbler was, and they had no idea what we were talkng about. It was hillarious.) We talked to random teenagers, went swimming at the condo's pool. Sat at the poolside bar drinking-alchol free daquiries. Took a ride on the short bus and had fun making fun of ourselves. Took so many pictures it was rediculous. Rode on kiddie rides and loved every minute of it. Blew hundreds of dollars just because we could. Got tans because us midwesterners are rediculously pale. Sweated off any makeup we had on, and last but not least we saw Tinkerbell fly. *whosh* That was a mouthful. And the rest of the summer has been hanging at the park, the movies, and the mall when they don't kick us out lolz.
In June, I went to our summer cottage, which is on the countryside, sort of, and by a lake. It's a lovely place, and I spent my midsummer there.
In July, I WENT TO THE US and met KYLAN, MESH, JUNE AND SNOINK and had lots and lots of fun and unforgettable time!
Then, when I got back home, I was home for a couple of days until I left for a scout camp, which was really cool because there were thousands of people from Finland and abroad and I made some new friends!
I swear, I haven't gone to the beach this summer at all. I've swam like twice and that was at the cottage. I've been standing on many beaches, but that doesn't really count, because I didn't even touch the water. Most of the times.
Anyway, it has been a splendid summer -- one of the best so far!

I did absolutely nothing in June beside finish my exams. In July, Paris, Auvergne and other little pieces of France. As well as a whole lot of horseback riding.
In August, all of the Cyclades in Greece on a little sailboat.
Now I'm back in France, just outside of Paris horseback riding again. I'll head back to Canada in a week or so.

I bummed around in California and Nevada. So basically, I went to the mountains and the beach and the farmlands and the desert... I'm going to see if we can go to the redwoods next!

Just found out that I'm going to England for three days next week? Just hopping over on the ferry on Thursday, seeing my grandparents, then driving with my papa to Cambridge on Saturday, getting put on a Ryanair flight from Stanstead to Dublin and meeting Mumsie at the airport.
I love cheap air travel.

I went to the beach for a week with my parents, my dad's best friend, and his kids--there were nine of us in a three-room cottage. You'd think it would've been crowded but it really wasn't. I got up early and went to the beach at like six am before everyone else got up every day, except for the last day. We rented bikes and road down to the rec center a few times but we were mostly at the beach, which was just across a street and down a long public boardwalk thing.
I've been volunteering with a no-kill shelter since May 31st (I did so for a month last year, got lazy, and stopped) during the weekends as much as I can. There's nothing like getting puppy and kitty kisses and helping a baby get a forever home. (Most) of the volunteers are epic and I learn a lot. No doubtly, I work my butt off those three days during the weekends (logged in 21 hours this past weekend, although I only really keep up in my head--I don't do it for the credit) and I have new respect for people who sit at the donation table outside for seven hours (which is what I did Saturday). I can do everything but the adoption paperwork (you have to be eighteen) but I still mess up sometimes.
Oh, and I've been pottytraining a puppy since the end of June. My friend found him under a dumpster, we fostered him but then surrendered him to the shelter I volunteer for, and ended up adopting him. Any minute now, he'll start crying to be let out. He's a sweetheart.
School starts for me in two days. D: At least I'm in my second to last year of high school.

I also went to Pennsylvania to Hershey's World of Chocolate. That was epicly awesome.
