Hi everyone! I'm Lauryn and I'm a 19 year-old college student. I'm studying to become a high school English teacher. I stumbled upon YWS while looking for writing resources online. It looked like fun, and it's been a few years since I've been involved with a forum, so I decided to give it a try. :D Anywho, I enjoy writing both poetry and fiction and, well... pretty much anything creative, really. I've been writing creatively since I was probably eleven or twelve, but I haven't done that much writing over the last couple of years, but I want that to change. I currently have a novel in progress, as well as a few short stories. My favorite author of all time is J.R.R. Tolkien (Lord of the Rings for the win! :D ) and my favorite poet is Billy Collins.

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone here :D

Oh, and I must also point out that I'm kind of obsessed with the fibery goodness that is knitting. Besides writing and reading, it's one of my most favorite things :P

Hey there! Welcome to YWS!

I'm SporkPunk, better known as Sporks or Sporky or...what normal people call me. And that's Leslie. :]

Anywho, you like Tolkien and Collins too! That's absolutely brilliant. :smt003 By any chance have you heard of Taylor Mali, the American poet? He was influenced by Billy Collins and Mali is wonderful live. :D

Yay for knitting? I don't know...I don't knit. I kind of know how to crochet though.

So...yeah. Feel free to explore the site, and again, welcome to YWS!

Heya there Lauryn! I'm Tamara!

Welcome to the Young Writers Society *shakes hand*

Making freinds on this site is so easy, and everyone is so amwesome. I love YWS, writing is my passion! My writing has improved a lot since I first joined YWS. If you post up your work you get amazing reviews, speaking of, if you would like a review you can Private Message (PM) me anytime. I'd be more than happy to. You can also PM me for any questions about the site, like how to navigate around. There is a sitemap which you could check out if you want to. If there is maybe something more serious you can PM a moderator and they'll be happy to help you.

Now, you've answered most of the questions that I usually ask when you wrote about yourself. But there are still a few other things. What type of genre do you like to read/write and do you prefer writing fiction, poetry or non-fiction? And, by the way, I LOVE KNITTING! I find it frustrating sometimes, so then I quit. But when I did knit it was just amazing!

Hope to see you around the site!
~Tamara

To Sporky: Nice to meet you! :D No, I've never heard of Taylor Mali. I'll have to look into him ;) I love finding new poets/authors to follow. As for knitting . . . no problem, we have ways of . . . converting . . . the non-knitters *shifty eyes* . . . Well, to be honest, we really don't. It would be fun if we did though :P

To Tamara: Hello! *shakes hand back* I like reading fantasy, historical fiction, poetry, and random books I happen to pick up at the library. :P I like to write fantasy, though I do dabble in other types of fiction, too. I also like writing poetry, but I have to be in the right mood. As for knitting, don't give up on it! It gets frustrating, but it's so much fun ;)

Hi, Lauryn (I love how you spell that name, by the way)! Welcome to YWS!

Being a High School English teacher sounds like it would be very interesting. I always tell myself that if I don't get to be a writer or actress, I'll go into teaching. Lord of the Rings, eh? I really love all of the movies but have to nag myself to get through the books. Anyway, hope you have fun on the site and feel free to PM me if you need anything!

To Shubhi: Why yes, I do like smilies. How could you tell? :P The novel I'm working on is fantasy, but it doesn't involve magic or anything. The main character, Amy's father and a friend disappeared after they were drafted into the army during a war. Ten years later, Amy's friend comes back and says that he knows where her father is and wants to rescue him. It's a story I've been working on forever, but I'm actually trying to finish it now. XD

To Elinor Brynn: I love English (both as a class in school, and writing obviously :P ), and I want the next generations to appreciate it as much as I do. Plus, it's an occupation that goes along well with writing. You should persevere through Lord of the Rings! I like the movies, but the books are definitely the real deal. :D

Yeah, I keep telling myself to do that. Maybe one of these days I can finish them--it's not that I think they're bad, but just challenging.

Yes, I love English too. ^^ It's probably my favorite subject. I just love exploring all the different types of writing--there's so many out there and they're all so interesting.
