Prologue?

Ok, so this might be a weird question, but here it goes. Can you make a prologue in third person and then write the rest of the novel in first person? Could I do it seamlessly and without confusing the reader, or should I just stick to first person throughout the whole thing?

I have seen it done! The prologue was in third, while the rest of the novel was in first. I wish I had never read the prologue (it killed the suspense of the first line).

The answer to your question is, yes, you can do that. Now my question to you is, why have a prologue at all?

Generally speaking, a prologue is something that takes place at a different point on the story's timeline or in a different place than the actual story, so it would make sense to have a prologue in third person, especially if it wasn't about your POV character.

Pretty much anything can be pulled off, if you do it well. That's the hard part.

Prologue pressure.
Often people feel as though they need to have a prologue. Guess what? You don't. I only use prologues if an action that happened far away from the characters and long before is important.
Only write the prologue if you're certain about it- if it comes as easily as the first chapter. You seem to be struggling on how to write it, so perhaps you don't even need a prologue.
