Heh, since this post, activity has taken a nosedive. Of course, a nosedive for YWS still means over 400 posts every day, but it's definitely noticeable. However, every single forum community I check on has also felt a similar nosedive. Funny how totally unrelated online communities move in sync like that.

I guess all members are faced with the same outside forces (read- school). :P

Well, I'm on half term, as are most of Britain and Ireland, so you might get more from us.

It's a shame that forums are almost being replaced by more 'universal' social networks. I know that they are fundamentally different and serve different purposes, but when you tell someone "Hey, I know this awesome community where people talk and chat..." etc. most people reply "I can do that on FaceBook". Then I give them that know it all look that I know all (or at the very least most) of us writers have. You know, the one you make when you are thinking to yourself "This person knows nothing!".

The activity drop just ended up being temporary, and only showed up in the posting numbers. Visits and pageviews continue to increase, which are the more important numbers anyhow.

By the way, I've always found that activity goes up when people have exams, which isn't altogether surprising. You're stuck indoors, usually near a computer, and you feel better about yourself surfing the web than going out with friends when you're supposed to be studying. After all, you'll only surf the web for ten minutes. And after those ten minutes are up then, well, what's another ten minutes, right? You can't get much done in just ten minutes, so watching a few more videos on Youtube ain't gonna hurt. Then when you get ready to study, you think "I can't study on an empty stomach." So you go grab a snack from the kitchen, pour a drink, and then return to your desk. But you can't eat and study; that's just impossible. So another ten minutes surely won't hurt while you eat your snack...

and thus, Nate, we all fail and end up living on the streets with no internet access and as a result, can never access YWS ever again...

But honestly, you're so right. That's what I do. I was reading over some old diary entries from when I was doing my Junior Cert (uh... think Harry Potter OWLs if you're stuck) and the night before Irish and Maths I spent two hours watching TV and didn't study at all.

(and probably went on YWS after).
