its your ending
Words - so innocent and powerless as they are, as standing in a dictionary, how potent for good and evil they become in the hands of one who knows how to combine them. ~Nathaniel Hawthorne

The man that had greeted Raven at the door swore as pounding boomed throughout the hideout.

"Quick everybody get down there and get the zombies off our perimeter!" Bama said.

Raven followed them. He grunted when Bama tugged on the back of his shirt. "You come with me," she said, waving for him to follow.

"But, we can't just leave the others!" Raven said. He flinched when he heard the door downstairs begin to splinter under the brutal poundings.

"We ain't abandoning them idiot!" she said opening two large suitcases.

Raven looked in awe as she pulled out a high caliber scoped rifle and held it out to him.

"Here this is for you take it to the roof." She nodded to a rusty door at the end of the room.

He took the heavy gun out of her hand and ran for the door.

"Not yet, you idiot!" she said. "You didn't let me hand you the ammunition." She tossed him a magazine.

He struck his palms out and caught the magazine.

"Here have another," she said clumsily throwing another.

This time it bounced of his fingers and clanged on the ground. Gunfire boomed below.

"Get the-" BOOM! "Off our property!" shouted one of the guys. The hissing and snarling of what sounded like dozens of zombies echoed all around them.

"Jezzes Chrize!" Bama said loading her rifle. "What you standin there for man! Get your self onto the roof!"

Raven didn't need to be told twice and threw open the rusty door to the roof. He took the aged stairs three at time, nearly tripping. He heard the door bang shut behind him followed by Bamas thundering steps up the stairs.

The sun illuminated the rooftop in its brilliance. The glass on the surrounding sky scrapers reflected sparkles of orange and red light. Raven had forgotten how beautiful the city could be. Especially during the sunset. But back then too many Earthly matters got in the way of really being able to focus on the natural world.

The zombies that swarmed the city brought him back to reality. He ran to a ledge, Bama was already way ahead of him. Her rifle boomed once and crackled throughout the surrounding buildings.

An explosion from below whipped up a cloud of dust that floated up to the northern side of the roof like a phantom.

"My God! They got in!" Raven said as he took aim at the endless swarms of zombies below. He pulled the trigger and missed, hitting concrete. The recoil sent his arms back, he gritted his teeth against the discomfort on his shoulder and elbow. He peered into the scope again and took a more precise aim. But, his fingers and arm were twitching so convulsively that he couldn't keep a zombie in his sights.

He jumped when hands scratched, and bodies slammed against the metal door to the roof.

"They made it in!" Raven said.

"Shut up man! And shoot those flesh eaters below!" Bama ordered.

Raven shook his head. This entire thing is futile. There must be hundreds of zombies below and here we are sniping , killing one every minute or so. Meanwhile countless more are pouring in.

Suddenly predatory metallic eagles zoomed above them, screaming like banshees.

"It's the Air Force!" Bama hollered.

Raven was knocked off his feet as the roof beneath his feet rocked like a ship over a storm sea. His rifle fell over the edge of the building and was lost somewhere among the sea of zombies below.

The ground beneath him continued to buckle. Raven could hear waterfalls of glass and metal rain down around him. Buildings crumbled as the explosion expanded faster than the speed of sound. Zombie snarls coming in from the distance were cut off by shrieks of pain, and then only the scorching of sky scrapers and the explosions of vehicles. Raven did not even bother to get up as the air seemed to liquefy and a great rush of super heated air rushed toward him. He closed his eyes and then he felt nothing as the entire city was obliterated by the one megaton bomb.

The explosion was so great that the bombers were swatted out of the sky like flies and joined the ashes. For a hundred mile radius radiation killed off the infected and humanity alike. From then on the sale of the hamburger was outlawed. For that is what is said to have started the plague that resulted in the annihilation of Americas capital of business.

The Statue of Liberty was no more. And that gave birth to the question of what liberty was. Could the American people ever recover from the wound? As it is a wound does the threat of it becoming infected not exist? Every nation already knew the answer. If not treated... it would. And that was exactly what was happening, it was being neglected as if it had never happened.

But, how ignorant does one have to be to not see the ash cloud of death being coughed into the stratosphere? Alas as it has been repeated throughout history mankind has not yet mastered the gift of learning from their mistakes. It is only the beginning of

"Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

The bigger the issue, the smaller you write. Remember that. You don’t write about the horrors of war. No. You write about a kid’s burnt socks lying on the road. You pick the smallest manageable part of the big thing, and you work off the resonance.
