Prologue

Falling in love with a human being was the biggest mistake Yuiko ever made.
The wizard and medium, Daisuke Kurosaki, a man from a wealthy Japanese family that owned more lands than Yuiko could count with all her slender fingers, and more businesses than she had siblings, was the object of her adoration.
They met in Tokyo, Japan, the day Yuiko had to battle and defeat Basraf, a beastly demon that had been tormenting the shinigamis for some time, as a final assignment for her to become one of the head soul reapers of the Dimension.
Had it not been for Daisuke, Yuiko would have lost her life, and she was eternally grateful for his aid. They became fast friends.
Eventually, she commenced to fall in love with his beautiful brown eyes, his smile, his dark hair, his voice, his manner, the way he spoke her name… Until, suddenly, one bright May day, on the fourth anniversary of the day they had met, under a cherry tree, Daisuke knelt on one knee and spoke these words: “Yuiko, I may be only a puny human, of little power compared to your greatness, but during these four years, you have changed my life in such a way that it brims with happiness, love, and prosperity. I love you. You are my life, my heart, and my soul. I know not if this is even allowed, and you might find my offer amusing, but…” he took her hand, which suddenly felt numb from surprise and expectation, “Would you do me the honor of becoming my wife?”
She accepted, of course.
The two lived happily together for fifteen short years. A year after their marriage, she gave birth to their son Aoi, an ivory skinned, brown-eyed, reddish, orange-brown haired boy; very lively and extroverted in his manner, and like his father, a medium. Other soul reapers resented him for being a half-blood, but Yuiko, with her new rank as a Head Shinigami, would not let harm come to him. Diasuke and she agreed never to tell young Aoi that Yuiko was a soul reaper, and thus Aoi only knew that his father was a medium and a magician, and figured that his mother was a medium as well.
Blood, however, is thicker than water, and, in due time, Yuiko herself began feeling a slight hatred for the little half blood that brought her so much trouble.
One fateful day, a messenger came to her doorstep and knelt before her. “Yuiko Sama,” his voice sounded from underneath the black hooded cape that clothed him, “I have come with a message from Lord Slater and Lord Singh.”
“Go ahead, and be quick. I do not want my son to set eyes on you.”
“The higher ones have decided, your greatness, that living the life of a lowly human and being a Head of the Dimension at the same time is utterly unacceptable. Your son has fourteen years of age upon him, and he is no longer a child who cannot take care of himself. He can fare well without your aid.”
Of course the little brat can take care of himself. Whom I do not wish to leave is my beloved. She realized.
“What is your concluding argument?” Yuiko eyed the messenger in distaste, running her fingers through her bright hair.
“Not mine, but of the higher—“
“Stop wasting my time and get on with it!” she could feel her blood boiling up to her head.
“You must return to the Dimension at once and stay.”
“Or?”
“You become a human yourself, lose your rank and stay in Earth forever.”
Which in Yuiko’s mind, was only equaled by one word: damnation.
Besides, she was not about to lose her hard earned position as one of the Head soul reapers.
That night, for the first time in her two hundred and ten years as a shinigami, she cried. She told Diasuke everything, and despite his numerous attempts to stop her, she left that same night, never to come back again.
Daisuke did not tell the confused and hurt Aoi why his mother left so suddenly, nor did he intend to tell him. The boy grew depressed and his sleep became restless and forever filled with nightmares. He would wake up screaming in the middle of the night, at creatures that not even Daisuke could see, let alone banish. So, in a final attempt to free poor Aoi of his torment, he sent the boy away to boarding school, in England; ordering Amadeus the djinni who had served him for many years, to keep a close watch on Aoi.

Daisuke Kurosaki died at age of forty. He did not die of sickness, and surely not old age.
It was something else that killed him. Something that, to this day, is hardly spoken among the Kurosakis, but serves as a lesson for the ones who attempt to tamper with the plans of the Others.
The consequences of the union between the human and the shinigami would last not only a lifetime, but for many, many generations to come.

I shall review this in purple!

Falling in love with a human being was the biggest mistake Yuiko ever made.
The wizard and medium, Daisuke Kurosaki, a man from a wealthy Japanese family that owned more land than Yuiko could count with all her slender fingers (no comma) and more businesses than she had siblings, was the object of her adoration.
They met in Tokyo, Japan, the day Yuiko had to battle and defeat Basraf, a beastly demon (Take out beastly, it's redundant) that had been tormenting the shinigamis (maybe explain what a shinigami is; the word sounds vaguely familiar to me but I'm not sure I know what it is) for some time (no comma again) as a final assignment "for her" isn't necessary to become one of the head soul reapers of the Dimension.
This was an okay start, but it didn't hold my interest as I got to the end. You used a few terms anime fans would probably know, but since I am not one and a lot of your readers won't be, you should define them. Also, the first few paragraphs were kind of an infodump explaining the history and background. If you want to put in background, you should do it in bits along the way. It won't hold people's attention if there is a lot of information in one paragraph. You did add conflict in, which was good, but you need to put it in earlier if you want people to continue reading your book. Make it more suspenseful. All in all, pretty good, but it needs some work.

Keep writing! ~Ryllie

Hi!
Thanks for reviewing! It's been a great help.
That was only the prologue. Of course, all the terms are defined within the first chapter. I admit the prologue isn't really that interesting :D. It just explains the event that started the actual story, which is, by far, more suspenseful than the prologue itself. I really need to work on that.
Thank you! :D

Moth and Myth <- My comic! :D

The bigger the issue, the smaller you write. Remember that. You don’t write about the horrors of war. No. You write about a kid’s burnt socks lying on the road. You pick the smallest manageable part of the big thing, and you work off the resonance.
