This was a story I wrote for school. I had to make it pretty short, so this is the full piece.

Michelle’s Mistake
Michelle pulled a jacket over her short-sleeved top decorated with zig-zags of ribbon. Tonight she planned to go to a party at her friend Ryan's house. There were going to be fifty people there, maybe more, because it was for New Year's.
It was a short ride to Ryan’s house, where cars already filled the lawn between trees. Michelle had to park on the street because there was no room left.
As she opened the front door, loud music boomed in her ears, and someone whooped.
Teenagers danced wildly on the floor of the living room which had been cleared of furniture. Even Ryan was nowhere to be seen among the people.
“Hey, What’s up?”
Michelle was greeted by a boy a few years older than her; he thrust a glass of coke in her direction.
“Thanks,” she shouted, to be heard over the ridiculously loud rap that emanated from the radio.
The boy who had a crew-cut hair over a harsh face shrugged and beckoned.
She didn’t even know who he was, but again, she didn’t know anyone she’d seen so far.
He lead her in the direction of a group of chairs where kids sat, laughing and eating.
“I’m Ray,” said the boy, slapping another guy on the back.
“This is Tevon,” Ray continued, introducing his friend.
“I’m Michelle, call me Michie,” responded Michelle.
For the next two hours, she sat around, joking, talking and eating hot dogs with these people she barely knew.
It didn’t seem to matter, though, because laughter filled the empty places and they talked about school, their plans for the summer, and anything else that came to light.
“Yeah, and you know what he said?” Ray turned out to be quite a talker.
“I’m not feeling so great,” Michelle cut in.
“Really? Wanna call somebody?” Asked Tevon, concerned.
“Oh, no, I’ll take you home if you want,” Ray stated quickly.
Michelle’s head hurt, and her vision spun.
She laughed “You’ve got two noses. Four eyes, four hands. Now there’s two of you! You look weird, dude, so weird….”
“It’s alright, sister. You’ve been up late, haven’t you? From the way you talk, your folks have you in bed asleep by eight!” Ray had taken her by the hand and was leading her to the door.
She followed him, lurching forwards as she walked. She lost a shoe, stumbling.
“Whoa, you okay there?”
“Oh, yeah, just fine.” Michelle murmured back, realizing the ground felt strange under her feet. Why did she feel grass between her toes? She wondered. She was wearing shoes, of course…
She vaguely thought that Ray should stop, but she couldn’t hold onto her thought for more than a second.
She made it to his car, and slumped over in the passenger’s seat. Ray pulled out of the driveway, and turned down the street.
By now, she had little idea that the car was even moving, and her eyes were drifting closed, shutting out the swirling world around her.
When she opened her eyes, it was morning. She was lying in her bed, with her feet at a strange angle to her head. Her room looked all wrong, backwards; then she realized her feet were on her pillow. She was lying the wrong way in bed.
Michelle’s head hurt, and her hands felt clumsy as she wiped sweat from her forehead.
After taking a shower, she headed to the kitchen to see her parents and get breakfast.
The time on the clock made her shriek. It was one in the afternoon!
Her father sat at his desk in the office, looking up at her sharply from behind his glasses.
“Where were you last night?” His voice was hard with restrained anger.
“I went to Ryan’s New Year’s party. What’s the big deal about that? I told you ahead of time what I wanted to do!” She wailed. Why was her dad so upset?
“You didn’t get home until three last night! I didn’t know where you were. You weren’t at the party when I called, and you didn’t answer your cell phone. I was ready to call the police.” He had put down the newspaper he had been reading, and now stared at her coldly.
“I wasn’t gone at three in the morning…” she trailed off, seeing by his expression, she had been gone.
“Yes, you were, now what were you doing?”
“I don’t know. I ate and danced, and came home when I didn’t feel well. It couldn’t have been later than eleven.”
Her father sighed, crossing his arms. His expression changed rapidly from that of frustration to alarm.
She started to turn away when he exclaimed “Wait! Come here.”
Her father rummaged in a drawer of his desk, and pulled out a flashlight.
“Look at my face. I want to see something.”
He shone the light into her eyes repeatedly, and Michelle squirmed, her eyes watering from the glare.
“Dad! What are you doing?” She whined.
“Your pupils aren’t reactive. There’s something wrong. With your brain.”
“What!”
“You know I used to be a doctor before I retired. You need to go to the doctor’s. Immediately. Your pupils should be shrinking when I shine the light into them. But they don’t. They stay large. I think someone drugged you, Michie.”
Michelle inhaled sharply, looking at her father, confused.
“What do you mean?”
“Did you drink anything that wasn’t sealed?”
“Yeah, some guy, Ray, gave me a coke. He was pretty nice. Then he… he drove me home!”
“Michelle!”
“He drove me home… my car-“ she looked out the window to see a driveway with only her father’s truck, “My car is still at Ryan’s. Dad, what do I do?”
Michelle had never been more afraid in her life.
“I’m calling the police,” her father murmured.
All Michelle could do was sit and cry.
........
I was supposed to make a project to describe date-rape drugs.
If you are willing to review, please give me a heads up on the following...
My questions are 1) is it too preachy, 2) is it coherent 3) is it at a high-school level
Thanks for reading!
