Ok, I just started this new story, (its a fantasy). The problem is I cant think of a name for my main character. Has anyone ever had this problem, what do I do about it, is there already a thread for this, if so can someone give me the link.

I always have this problem. My mom has a baby name book from when I was born & I sit down and go through the entire thing. I make a list of any posibilities. Then I try putting the name into a potential sentence in the story to see if it fits. I shorten the list until I have found the perfect name (hopefully)!

Hope this helps!

Naming characters can be so difficult. For me, the problem lays in the fact that I know a billion people and I never want to copy one of their names when I write. But one of my best suggestions if you can’t find a name is to just use a filler name. Then, when you find a name that you like, use the find/replace feature of your word program to replace the filler name with the name that you like.

Here is a wonderful name resource and possibly one of the most referenced name sites out there. It gives an amazing collection of names from all areas of the world as well as providing an amazing search feature. This would be a great place to find inspiration.

Also, what I would recommend is looking into your character and finding a name that really feels right as you tell the story. Do you imagine your character’s love interest screaming “Sara” as he chases after her or “Penny.” Things like this. In the end, it’s all up to you.
Never forget who you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armor yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you.

There's also a site that has a specific section for Fantasy Names, if you want the name to sound fantasy-ish...

If I could only see right to the end, I'd know just where to begin, and I could put together all the little pieces.
