This is part of a series I'm starting that I'm on the fence about. Please comment I need Input.
It was two o’clock in the morning and the party had just begun, teens from fourteen to eighteen danced to the music that pulsed though the air. Most of the kids here were filthy rich the preppy kind of kids that got porches on their sixteenth birthday, and their parents didn’t care what they did as long as they still pulled of good grades, so none of them had curfews. Jenica stood at the punch bowl, she was sure someone had spiked it so she just picked up an unopened sprite can and coke for her boyfriend and a Pepsi for her best friend and brother. She cradled the drinks in her shirt as she made her way back to their table avoiding thrashing teens. She handed out the drinks and sat next to Kyle. They were shoe in for cutest couple once they were seniors, they had started dating when they were in the sixth grade. At first their parents tried to break them apart, saying they weren’t a fit match. Which was a nice way of saying he’s white she’s black. Cody left to live with his brother and they continued to date and they were deeply in love. Jenica had started saving up for her wedding and Cody saved his for the honeymoon. Some said their relationship was sickening to watch, way to story book for their liking. Jenica couldn’t have cared less she loved him and that was all to it.
“Want to dance,” he asked even though he knew the answer.
“Maybe later she said trying to switch up her usual response so she wasn’t so predictable. Usually it would be a quick no.
He smiled at her answer. “You never change.”
“If I did would you still love me.” She poked his nose playfully.
“You could become a psychopathic ax murder and I’d still love you. His pale blue eyes shined showing that he meant this completely.
“How sweet,” Sarah yelled over the bumping music. “But seriously can we leave I’m getting a massive headache, and your brother just puked in my purse. Jenica looked over to see Tom her brother bent over gagging into Sarah’s purse.
“How much punch did you drink? She asked.
“I don’t know maybe five cups” he said in between heaving. Jenica helped her brother up and the four of them walked for the door. Cody carried most of her brothers weight since her brother was ten times larger then her, and yet he was younger then her. They managed to get him into the back seat and Went to their seats. Cody was the only with a license so he drove. He was a god driver and focused only on the road. He didn’t even loose concentration when Jenica red to distract him. Jenica unbuckled her seat belt and got in the back with her brother, who was still vomiting his guts up. She reluctantly gave them her purse once Sarah’s was full.
A few cars up the traffic was surprisingly bad for this late at night one silver Volvo weaved in between cars closely followed by a black mustang. The mustang came to lose to a mini van in one of it’ turns knocking into it. The mini van swerved hitting a bump then flipped, landing in the path of another car. It crashed into it sending it backwards into another. A truck tried to stop but it was two lat it hit the wreckage and flipped on its side, flinging loose the cars it was towing. They came down like missiles causing complete chaos. Cody swerved avoiding two falling cars but the third landed on the roof crushing its top. The car slammed into the increasing pile of cars, and Jenica not buckled in was hurled from the cars front window.
She woke up with lights flashing and a thick smoke choked her. She got up slowly feeling the blood on her forehead. She wiped it away, and limped to-ward the lights. They were cop lights. But half way there she blacked out, waking up hours later in a hospital. She got up and examined herself. It seemed her only problem was a few cuts and her arm was in a cast. She pressed the nurse button and waited patiently, she had no reason to worry. If she had been thrown from the car and survived then it was her that the others were worried about she reasoned. She got a little anxious when a doctor accompanied with a women dressed in normal close came in. The doctor introduced her.
“This is Dr. Mars are Psychologist.”
“Why do I need a Psychologist?” Jenica asked frantically eyes darting from the women to the door. “Where are the others?”
“You were in a twenty car pile up Jessica, I’m afraid you were the sole survivor. The women tried to hug her as she began to shake.
“No they can’t be dead they can’t be.” She got out of the bed.
“Please get back in the bed Jessica” the doctor soothed.
Jenica ran for the door to be met by three guards, she tried to fight passed them but they easily grabbed her and brought her back to her bed.
“Strap her down before she hurts herself.” The doctor pulled out a syringe and shoved it into her arm as she screamed for Justin.
“He’s not dead, He’s not dead.” She mumbled as she began to drift into sleep.
Jessica’s mom got to the Hospital nearly giving husband a heart attack as she pulled into a parking space. She rushed form the car before it had even stopped. She ran inside and screamed to see her daughter.
“I’m sorry Ms. Brown she’s sedated now, and if she was awake I don’t think she’d be able to handle it. The psychologist will talk about your options.
Ms. Brown this way the young women beckoned for her to follow. Ms. Brown gave the doctor a worried glance as Mr. Brown just caught up huffing from the run.
The psychologist sat them down in her office they sat across from her in cushy seats.
“I’ve been informed that the people that were in the car with your daughter at the time were extremely close to her. “
“Yes one was her boyfriend for five years and her brother and her best friend.” Ms. Brown had tears in her eyes and wiped them away quickly with the edge of her husbands glasses cleaning cloth.
“I believe that such looses may hinder her recovery so I suggest you move. If she stays here she will be surrounded by reminders and people who are trying to comfort her who will make things worse. She was muttering in her seep awhile ago about cars I think it’s possible that after her accident she may develop Amaxophobia. The fear of vehicles I’ll run some tests when she’s awake to make sure, if she is you must keep her away from them or risk a relapse.”
“Doctor where do you suggest we go?”
“Well if she does have this fear I suggest a small town were it’s possible to walk from place to place, somewhere with few people as not to overwhelm her. Someplace like Rhode island or Utah.” The Psychologist wrote on a piece of paper which ever you choose these are the Psychologists there respectively. She got up ad offered her hand to shake. “I hope I’m wrong about your daughter’s phobia, they can absolutely crippling. Ms. Brown took her hand then Mr. Brown shook her hand before she left.
Jenica felt numb as she sat in the bed, the slow beeping of the machines she was hooked to her no longer annoyed her as she sat staring at her hand. How did she survive when everyone else died? She tired not to think about it, the doctor came in to talk to her she ignored him then her parents, crying and pleading for her to say something, but she just stared at them unresponsive. It wasn’t until the psychologist came in that she had any reaction and it wasn’t to her but to the picture of a car she was holding. When she saw it her whole body stiffened as she saw nothing but fire and the suffocating smog, and dead bodies surrounding her including Kyle’s and Sarah’s. She screamed uncontrollably thrashing but she couldn't’t take her eyes off the picture the doctor put it away and the vision subsided.
The Psychologist frowned and turned to Ms. Brown.
“Give me three months to calm her fear of cars I can’t stop for good but I can lesson it so It won’t be that extreme. These three months you should take to get your affairs in order for you can move as soon as I’m done. That way she can have a some what normal life, and go to a normal school. That way she can have a some what normal life, and go to a normal school.
“Three months and she’ll be fixed.” Mr. Brown asked.
“Like I said it won’t be perfect, but I can make it not so prevalent.” She bit her lip, when you guys do move please keep in contact with me I’d like to know how Jenica is doing,
