Molly returned and quickly poured many glasses and passed them through the crowd. The men drank quickly and slowly calmed down.
Several hours later, in the middle of the night, as a cold wind ripped through the building and all had been put to rest, a violent, bloody scream echoed through the room.
The candles were lit, but the choir was only half present. Reverend Brown stood up from the front pew and turned around. "Where is everyone?" he asked the congregation. At first, they remained silent, shaking their heads and shrugging, but then a young boy stood up in the back.
A cold chill slipped into the room and extinguished two of the candles. Shadows elongated and curved along the wood floor, and the red drapes across the windows darkened to crimson.
Reverend Brown closed his Bible and returned to his seat on the pew. The choir rose to begin singing when the front door slammed open and part of the mob from the woods crowded inside.
"We were—" "—it was a—" "—there's a—"
"Wait!" He said, holding up his hand and glancing over his shoulder.
"We got into groups and went out looking … for a long moment, and then there was the most awful screaming and—"
