Any info on mental health issues or psychiatric wards?

So, I'm currently writing a new short story with @Isabella12364. One of our characters struggles with Schizophrenia and there are some mentions of the inside of a psychiatric ward/being admitted to one. If anyone knows anything about how to write a character like this, or what that would look like, please leave a comment.
Also, please be kind and respectful when talking about this, it is a hard topic that deserves realistic descriptions and respect when writing/talking about it.

I know some who works as a mental health nurse and who also has a personal connection with someone schizophrenic. I could ask her but this is based in the UK so the information may not be accurate to where your story is based!

I am a licensed psychologist (which means I can diagnose mental disorders, but can't prescribe medication) and work for a government agency, but have spent a lot of time diagnosis/treating patients who end up hospitalized due to their struggles.
