Collage Poem: The Squirming Everything

Materials: Reviews I have written on YWS, avoiding quotes and language used from the actual work. (List of links below the poem!)

The squirming everything

Fragility of life
filled with motion like the words
the big, restless movements of talking.

Both a scent and a colour
mechanics for healing
the scrambling of the letters.

I tried to dig
against such order.
To convey a 'turn'
or reveal in the narrative.

The fight brings out new sides,
moral crisis,
we've yet to learn
the thrill of victory.

Untitled Collage Poems

1. Material: a folder I have called 'repurpose into poetry' containing very old poems I wrote

Ghost bird
cut me a path
dissipate, bees from the hive.
an acid sea
Traitorous jade eyes
Colonise my surface
I am but a rock.

Silvery fish leap
mushrooms light paths
of glowing green spots
A flute sounds at dawn
Azure stalactite
reflects itself endlessly.

The idea behind this one was to have contrasting moods in the stanzas, with a return to the theme of 'rock' by the end.

2. Material: my current diary

A hundred faces of despair
soup and noodles
it's hard to enjoy anything.
English muffins for breakfast.

Everything is spiky, porcupiney.
Rough like a planet,
spiralling every day over every setback.
My arms grow tired.

She comes from a universe
watched, watching, waiting.
The last string
of an abandoned spiderweb.
Feline, scrupulous, sharp.

But she's travelling.
Finishing this experiment will bring somebody
new growth.
A brilliant blue light
on the horizon line.

Again, I wanted to work with contrasts, but also create a 'story' with one mood transforming into another.

Cento: The golden sunlight

I am waiting for
the people to stop waiting
leaves stack up
your blood
in your body where it belongs

I love you like a big blob
because I can't stand the fumbling
just a cherry blossom tree
the golden sunlight

Made from poems I wrote and archived in 2021 (that's why I've called this a cento rather than collage). Every couple of lines is from a different poem.

Another untitled collage poem

closed spaces / flies
daydream everything
get in the window
phantom cliff / sludge steep
crowded out / all my faults

people's eyes / onion roots
my brain half-torn
moral play

blocking out noise
shame / unreality
think less.
more stargazing.

Made from a mixture of diary entries and a list of themes I jotted down on a receipt as brainstorming.

bye bye academic life

Content warning: themes of death and dying, 'existential'

Made from texts I sent my mum while spiralling - but edited from the original

Spoiler
too tired to get home
back home to no WiFi
drag myself home somehow
before i get too sick to do so.
no one is there to save me
but that means i have free will

my hands hurt
dehydrated
the grim reaper
through my window

i could have led a good life
and done something.
all ive done is eat a banana
i drank milk and had cheese
trying not to get killed
without thinking about the consequences

im so exhausted i think i could die
havent successfully diagnosed
feminism or govt
doing very little to help
nowadays mostly just
a gastrointestinal ordeal

noise outside my room
broke up the ethical rhythm
and off ill go to apples in hell
and say hey i need you

and i think im just going
to be born in this time period.

trying not to get killed
without thinking about the consequences

!!!

and i think im just going
to be born in this time period.

<3

i can't quite express it, but the semi-disjointed lines work so well to craft the tired atmosphere, and there are so many genius combinations of lines and twists.
