Demons in Tokyo

Elevator pitch

Freya Lilithia, the disgraced daughter of a family of Darkened (demons) travels to Tokyo to find her ex-girlfriend, who has went missing along with her brother who she long thought dead.

Goals & Plans

A little break from my current WiP, which is turning out quite long. I've never really been able to do Novmo since I always had school, but this current semester is pretty lax. In that case, I wanted to finally write a novel in a month! I am well into the planning phase!

My writing goal is around 50,000 words and I am planning to finish this by the end of the month!

I plan on giving some sort of update every week/as often as possible!

Additional Info

The world in this story is much like Earth, but it has been split into two sides. The "light" side with humans (named Aer) and the "dark" side with demons (named Darkened). Freya is half Aer and half Darkened, but she fights against the darkened and her own family for her own whims. This story will involve her getting a job in Japan, where things end up being much more complicated than she previously thought...

Interesting idea! How much of Japan is like Japan? Or is it almost completely like Japan, but in a different multiverse? :)

The "light" side is north of the equator, so Japan is inhabited by humans. So it is more or less the same or VERY similar. The government is likely in league or cooperating with demons (named Lilim) so I can see there being more danger and corruption than normal.

To add, I am using Dante's inferno for inspiration. I will be naming each chapter after a layer of hell, and all characters are associated in some way with characters or themes from the inferno.

Various arts I've done for some side characters/antagonists.

(From left to right)

Ali Cicero - Freya's old ex-girlfriend. She's a private investigator who is in Tokyo before Freya appears. She decides to tag along with Freya because their interests align. She's sort of a Virgil figure who will guide Freya along.

Sissa-Ben Lilithia - She's one of Freya's 10 siblings. Her main power is opening portals between dimensions. She might be sent to kill Freya by her father, but she wouldn't care to. She is one of Freya's only siblings who plays by her own rules.

Canto Lilithia - One of Freya's older siblings who will be sent to kill her. She can create ice constructs. People who are full Lilim (demon) have no empathy and only care about growing in power.

Dradis Lilithia - Freya's brother who she was forced to kill at a young age. She thought he was dead only to hear that he is alive and working for an anti-lilim government organization in Japan called Maizuru.

Maro Fischer - Freya's amnesiac girlfriend who decided to go back to her homeland to find her lost memories with the help of the Maizuru organization. She gained robotic arms after a research accident. She is posessed by some sort of demonic energy, which is contained by her robotic arms. Freya is chasing after her after she hears of everything that has happened to her.

Okay! First writing update.

With life, studying abroad, and the dreaded MIDTERMS, I have gotten less done than I expected to. I have gotten about 2/10 chapters done this time around, so this might be something that drags me over to December.

So, I have to LOCK IN and get some assignments done, and I'll keep chipping away at this project.

Second and likely final writing update.

Ya, midterms got me this month. I am quite happy with my outcome this month because it meets the normal output I can usually meet in around a month. I certainly still want to push it, though!

Three chapters done this month, and it doesn't feel like a lot of progress. All these add up to 14,938 words. So I'll round it off to 15,000 words. That also doesn't count the worldbuilding I did while putting around this month. If things go well, maybe I'll have this thing done by around January? I'd definitely like to post it once it's done!

Maybe what most people wanted wasn't immortality and fame, but the reassurance that their existence had meant something. No matter how long... or how brief. Maybe being eternal meant becoming a story worth telling.
