Short Film Screenplay

I'll be using this space to document all my ideas/progress for my Intro to Film class this semester. We have to use Final Draft 13 educational edition for the software, which I can finally open on my new laptop. Class hasn't started yet, but I already started planning out the basis of my screenplay, like characters, and central conflict. I'm also going to show features of this software if you're curious about it.

Ideas
Zombie:I've been thinking about writing a zombie story where it's not super gritty and dark like Walking Dead or Last of Us. Basically the survivors all help each other out; it's a peaceful society. Maybe they learn to coexist with the zombies in the end or something.

Rom Com: I can practice writing romance

Drama: A teenager and her mother struggle to understand each other

Urban Fantasy: A dissatisfied office worker rediscovers the joy in life when he transfers to a new location

Here is an image of the beat board from the software I'm using. I only have three boards filled in (and they're not detailed at all), but as I develop the story, everything will become more fleshed out.

I can't stop thinking about the zombie apocalypse idea, so I'm sticking to that. Plus, I came up with a semi-decent logline.

A young woman must travel through post-zombie apocalyptic America to find an orthodontist to remove her braces.

It has the comedy vibes I was going for, and it will make me be better at horror.

I don't know if I can comment. Please remove it if one isn't supposed to, lol. (I have completely forgotten how this works >.>)

When I read your ideas, I really liked the office story and wanted to nudge you to write romance too. But this "removing braces" IS SO HILARIOUS as an idea. Because I am now wearing braces though I've never felt any actual discomfort, I'm guessing the age (and the self-voluntary) has something to do with it. I will keep an eye on this post, Val!

@Dreamy, your comments are more than welcome! Thank you for what you said! I was heavily leaning between the zombie idea and the office idea, but I wanted to challenge myself to write horror, so I went with the former. BUT I still love the office story, so maybe that will pop up again on YWS

Okay, so my classmates suggested I have my main character start out in a shelter, which will make the antagonists the other characters also in the shelter think her journey is unnecessary and too risky. I'm still trying to figure out the specifics of the antagonists, like if they'll follow my main character, or just straight up kick her out, and that's that.

But anyway, my main character and her companions find the orthodontist, but, oh no, he was bitten by a zombie. Now she has to decide if she'll give up, or go through with her goals.
