shhhh no i'm not reusing a graphic, whaaaaaaaat

If you were around for Camp NaNo July 2024, you may have seen me worldbuilding for this project! ;) I actually worked on three projects then. I made the most plot notes for this project, however, so that's what I'll be going with this month~

Blurb

In a world where magical abilities abound and status is determined by power, a few unlucky ones are born powerless. These Worthless are assigned jobs that are the lowest of the low: sewer maintenance, cleaning out the griffin nests, and the mind-numbing work involved in polishing the gemstones that keep the world floating in the sky. But hidden in a certain forest of these floating isles is a school that teaches advanced mathematics and sciences that can do things bordering on the magical…
So. How would you like to fake being a mage?

Goals

  • Write 50k words
  • Write >= 15 encouraging comments on other ppl's threads
  • Host/attend 3 write-ins

Considering how busy I've been, I might be majorly cooked. Perhaps burnt to a crisp, actually. But. Uh. I will do what I can in the limited time I have and just have fun with it XDD

Happy NovMo!! :>

Okay, okay, wait - I'm just imagining it, or I just came across a NovMo project about a book I'd definitely love to read as a middle grader (well...strictly speaking, I'm currently in an upper middle grader, but you get my point , right?). It looks amazing! I wish you good luck with your goals and and a lot of inspiration in your writing :D

So, I wrote some stuff on November first, then wasn't able to write after that XD There are a bunch of blanks as well... But surely this weekend I'll be able to write more and plan more stuff out... >.>

Spoiler
It was an uncomfortable feeling to be on a flying train, heading towards a magic academy, when you actually weren’t quite sure if you were a mage.

Tazanen _ propped his chin on his hand and stared out the window of his compartment. As the train curved, he saw the two mages standing on top of the train, working to keep the train aloft. Their sky-blue robes flapped in the wind, and he briefly worried that, despite the guardrails and their magic, they’d somehow topple off and fall below the floating isles and all the way down to the wild lands on the surface of the planet.

Taz shook those ridiculous thoughts away and distracted himself by watching the mages make flowing gestures with their arms. Those gestures were all for show. Supposedly magic was something innate that could be invoked with merely a thought. But he wouldn’t know–he’d reached _, the average age of gaining magic, and he felt nothing different inside him.

“Yo, Taz, look at this.” His friend _ snapped his fingers from across the compartment and

Taz cracked a half-smile. He hoped it looked more convincing than it felt. "Very cool.”

“I know, right? Can’t wait to freak people out with it when we get to campus.”

Tazanen’s stomach twisted at the thought of arriving on campus. They’d announce him as Tazanen _, son of _ and _, and people would expect him to be just as impressive as they were. Who exactly were his parents, you ask? Nobody much, just the [role] and the most influential people on the Marzel Isles. So naturally, people would wonder what his ability was, and he’d be forced to grit out that he didn’t have one yet, and–

A loud crash sounded from the compartment in front of them.

Hey Mint! I absolutely love this concept and switching the sort of roles between science and magic from most other stories! It's so cool!
