Temp & Van: A Paranormal, Platonic Love Story

A Technical Rewrite of Ghosted
Draft: #1
Writing Time: October + November

Seventeen year old Abigail Temperance Grey has a secret that not even her closest cousins or weekly D&D group knows about: she can see ghosts. That’s not her only secret, however. Temp can see ghosts because her dad was a grim reaper who fell in love with the local mortician. Ever since she found out about her family heritage on her fifteenth birthday, Temp’s been working on becoming a grim reaper, too. It’s been pretty basic, repetitive work, but what’s cooler than dealing with the dead? The only problem is that there are some people who don’t want the dead to stay dead, and it’s up to Temp to figure out why if she wants to prove that she really can reap souls despite being half human.

Van Sullivan has a secret that only two people in the entire world know: he should be dead. Even more so, he should be in the afterlife. He was in the afterlife after being a ghost for more than a century, but everything changed when a strange man named Rew appeared with a deal he couldn’t refuse: figure out who’s trying to bring people back from the dead, and he’ll be able to stay in the realm of the living. He just has to avoid getting caught by grim reapers in the process.

The one problem? Van has a second secret. When he was a ghost, he was best friends with Abby Grey.

And no matter how hard he tries to avoid her, Temp seems (rightfully) convinced that the strange dark-haired boy she keeps running into has something to do with the dead.

The Cast
[Under Construction]

Image

Van Sullivan

A former ghost who’s mentally over a hundred, physically seventeen, and legally eighteen.

It’s complicated.

Abigail Temperance Grey | Temp

A seventeen year old reaper-in-training.

She decides to solve a mystery to prove her worth as a collector of souls.

Rew

The man who gave Van a second chance at life.

For someone so mysterious, he’s strangely lighthearted and goofy.

I think the best thing about making it into the quote generator is when nobody tells you, so one day you're just scrolling and voila, some phenomenally inane thing that crawled out of your dying synapses and immediately regretted being born the second it made contact with the air has been archived for all time. Or worse, a remark of only average inanity. Never tell me when you've put me in the generator. Pride-tinged regret just doesn't taste the same without the spice of surprise.
