And remember, sometimes the best replacement for said is nothing at all. :)

So like:

"I have no idea what you're talking about."

She rolled her eyes. "About the midterms, remember? Or have you forgotten already?"

"Oh." He scratched his head.

So you don't HAVE to put a "he said" in there at all.

Play around with it... it's good exercise. :)
